    Re: August 2016 Portraits

This is my mother, she died yesterday at 95. I assume LF from the era and lens softness on original, heavy paper 5X7 print. The scan shows it's current color tone. Shot at the Golden Rule Building, Photoreflex Studio, St Paul Minn. No date, but must be between 1937 and 1945. Signed by mother with 'All My Love June" which could be for only one person, my father. He is also gone. Found it today as I put together a slideshow for survivors. (great grandchildren) More daunting a task than I imagined in many ways. I have pictures dated from 1937.

    This is the best one.

Since everybody uses a darn phone, I am making a phone capable slide show which actually looks great Chromecast to large TV. At least the B&W and SX70 Polaroids do, all color prints look horrible and don't scan or PS well. Fade and huge color shifts. No wonder I dislike color.

Thanks all for your comments and thoughts.

June had a calm wisdom despite never getting past 2 years of HS. It was the Great Depression, in dirt farm Northern Mn. June was forced out of home by her mother to make her way. My father caught June when they were both 15 and they only separated during WWll until he returned wounded. What is really interesting is how happy they look in all pre 1945 pictures.

    My condolences.

In this portrait she looks a like a Holywood star. Yes... that happy look is very charming.
