Who Calibrates Spot Meters?

I have two pentax digital spot meters, one of which is marked Zone VI. Since both were purchased used, it might be a good idea to have them calibrated.

I recall reading somewhere about a firm in Hollywood that seemed to be highly regarded, but cannot locate that info. Any recommendations for this or others offering calibration services?

I think you are thinking of Quality Light Metric in Hollywood. I believe they are still there though they did move a few years ago. Try (323) 467-2265. Richard Ritter also offers this service. Calumet calibrates the Zone VI ones and I am sure would do the non-converted ones if you ask.

Dan, Just go outside on a sunny day with a gray card (in direct sunlight without glare) and take a reading on it. If you get 15 as a reading, you can be sure that it or they are OK. Really very simple and also cheap.

Check out Dr. Richard Henry's book "Controls In Black and White Photography" ISBN 0-240-51788-1. He has a superb, inexpensive way of calibrating the Pentax (or any) spot meter.
