Scratches on negs developed in Jobo 3005 Drum

    Hi.

I have an issue with vertical scratches from the 3005 Drum. They are on the non-emulsion side and seems to come from the walls in the holes. Wondering if I have some tiny "nipples" that are responsible. Anyone else have had the same problem and what are the solution?

I´m contemplating sanding the insides down or using blank dummy negs. All suggestions are welcome.

    Regards

    Stig Jensen

Hundreds of sheets of film processed in 3005 and no scratches.

I did get scratches processing 8x10 sheet film in a 1500 drum. There is a ridge that will scratch the film. I did sand one drum smooth, but the sanded area attracts chemicals and is hard to clean.

I've never encountered scratching on the base side of film with my expert drums either.

I don't think the scratches are coming from the walls since the expert drum chambers are
slightly barrel shaped to facilitate chemical flow. You may have some rough spots on the
top edge of the chamber where it's glued, perhaps even from a previous repair ?

Have you ruled out your film holders ?

After 20+ years of both 4x5 and 8x10 Expert Drum use, I've never had scratches on either side of any film. Very odd.

One reason I gave up on rotating Jobo drums. But some sheet films are more fragile than others.

Good suggestion from Jim - I would check the filmholders.

it might be the ridge here as well. I have used the 3005 previously (not this one) and no sctratches for me either. Very odd.

Its not the holders. I used them two weeks ago and checked the film now. No scratches.

Thanks for the replies. I´ll have another go and be very careful and check once more.
