mdphoto, your photograph stops me each time I am about t scroll past. Perfectly fitting composition of the handsome architecture, bold and rich tonality that captures the feeling of light and atmosphere. It's a pleasure to view.

The Grotto House, in Zion Canyon.

First building built in Zion National Park (1924)...a combination of Visitor Center and campground and Park headquarters. The campground 'comfort station' was built in the same style in 1925 (shown earlier in this thread). Walls are blocks of local sandstone

This is where I spent a month as the AIR in April 2018.

11x14 camera, 360mm lens, modified darkslide to get two 5.5x14 images per sheet of 11x14.

The Museum-Grotto Residence is the oldest building remaining in Zion National Park. The Grotto structure was built in 1924 as the Park Museum, then rebuilt as a residence in 1936 to a design by Harry Langler of the NPS Branch of Plans and Designs, using CCC labor. The stonework is significantly larger in scale than later work.[18] The Grotto Residence was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places, reference number 86003721 on February 14, 1987. 37°15′28″N 112°57′3″W[5]
PS -- I wish I had not left a roll of paper towels on the sill of the kitchen window! So it goes...

Did you use a graduated neutral density filter to darken the clouds?

No on the neutral density filter, but I have always used a polarizing filter, and the clouds were very dark in areas. One thing about photographing in the northwest cloud blow through constantly.Click image for larger version.

O, for the return to both trains (including maglev) and dignified architecture! How we need them!

Confederate States of America Monument, in front of the Washington, GA Courthouse, sponsored by the "Last Cabinet" Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

In 1865, the original building on this site was host to the final session of the Confederate Cabinet, where President of the Confederacy Jefferson Davis officially dissolved the CSA.
