    Thanks, Dan - this is fascinating stuff. I flirted with the idea of trying the process, years ago, but was rather put off by the handling of mercury to make the rear mirror. Pouring it an and out of a holder, per the recipe I had, didn't strike me as a particularly friendly thing to do at the photographic site.

    The big disadvantages of course are the viewing light has to be a similar wide spectrum source to sunlight, so all the frequencies are represented, and that you can't copy the image.
