Linhof Master Technika and Lee Grad filters

I'm new to large format and I have just started to use my Master Technika in the field, and when trying use a grad filter I ran into a problem.

How do you go about using your lee grad filters with the adapter rings and a Lee hood on the Linhof Master Technika? When i tried using my lee grad filters, the linhof's fold-out lid impedes the travel distance grad filter, and I cant place the grad filter into position without bottoming out. This was simply me resting the grad filter in front of the lens. I haven't tried using the adapter ring yet as i need to get suitable filter adapter rings at different sizes.
I suspect the option is to lower the lid like as if you are using a wide-angle lens, then raise/tilt the front lens back to position. However that would take away some of the adjustment range doing this.

What do you do in this case, are there alternative methods?

Do you really need to go that far with the filter?
I use a black card clipped to the filter that's slid down to the gradation line for accurate viewing at the shooting Aperture. Try it with a typical scene to see just how much movement you need.

You could also tilt the bed and re-align the standards for more room on the front, but thats much more complicated.

Thanks Vinney, heres a shot of my experience (dont have a 49mm adapter ring yet but the problem would still apply).

try using the drop bed technique.
You could also cut an inch off the bottom of the filter as you're not likely to every need that portion.

I have one Lee filter and one HiTech filter. I like the HT filter better because it's much smaller top-to-bottom and has less of a problem with impacting camera beds. So if you decide to get additional filters, perhaps get that brand.

Never thought about this issue before as all of my cameras whether monorail or wood field camera could move the back forward along a rail or bed. With those designs you could move everything forward to avoid this kind of problem.

I have a chamonix 45 and I ran to this issue recently. I had to insert the filter upside down. Somewhat of a failure since the filter didn't hold too well onto the holder.

Unscrew the accessory shoe on top of the camera. That will give you a second tripod socket that lets you mount the camera upside down, if that would help.
