Re: Show off your ULF camera

My first 20 x 24 was like an 8th grade science project - foam board and duct tape. The big box camera was easy and quick to make. It was the foam board film holder that was hard to make. It worked ! And one thing led to another. A photo is not shared here to protect my reputation.

It was time to upgrade. I got the basic parts from Filip Harbert - holders, bellows (8 feet) and rear of camera. The front standard I built myself. The photo is a shot of setting up on a Chicago rooftop.

The other 20 x 24 is by Richard Ritter. He customized it to use Filip Harbert's film holders. The photograph is a set up at a local July 4 children's bicycle parade. I use Red Dot 24 and 30 inch Artar lenses, 1210 mm Apo Nikkor, and am trying out a 1000 mm, 100 degree custom lens by Fuu-Diing Chen.

Not to be a complete idiot, but what's the point of using a wide angle lens that's longer than normal for the format?

    Dan,
The lens was commissioned a few years ago for a camera much bigger than mine. The lens was available. It was not within capacity to resist buying the lens. I though I would be able to get almost unlimited shift/tilt with my 20x24 or would make a foam board camera to duplicate the dimensions of the much larger camera that the lens was commissioned for.

Wow, fantastic camera. Is that a Quick-Set 'Samson' tripod underneath it? If so, be careful of the threads on the leg extension collars. That was the failure point on the two we had in a former career. Best of luck- share some pictures when you get a chance.

Mark, yes it is a Sampson. Thanks for advice about legs..I will watch them. Here are some samples of things I have taken and contact printed 20x24. Sorry for the iphone pix....it is a digital as I get. As you know, they need to be seen in person.
