I use a recessed board on my DX and 90mm. f8 Nikkor that has an offset wire adapter to bring the cable release out front, and the mounting hole is shifted toward the bottom of the recess, allowing more 'finger room' at the top for cocking and aperture/shutter speed adjustments. Got it many years ago, works great, but don't know the maker. There are many 'similar threads' on this forum that delve deeper into this very subject-do a search at the upper right of the page.
