    Paint your Arca Swiss

Most likely, the issue at hand is not specific to Arca, but I've named the topic like this because it concerns an Arca rear standard. In a nutshell. I've recently picked up an arca rear standard that has the paint flaking off. It does not seem to do any harm, the metal has oxidised and seems fine. However, I like my gear to look nice, so if at all possible, I would like to re-paint the standard. To do so, i guess I have to get the remainder of the paint off, treat the metal and paint it. Anyone with any experience and / or suggestions? I wish I could sand-blast the standard, but this is not an option so it will be either sanding or using heat/acid to get the paint off. Also interested in what exact color and type of paint is on the stand when it leaves the factory.

    Thanks for your input!

You might try having it anodized.

Sand blasting is certainly not good, but 'media blasting' is okay. There are very many different materials that work for aluminum. Choose a reputable service or two. I'm with Rod - anodize it.

DIY home painting is a royal pain. I've done lot, and there's too much to it to discuss in a little DIY. It's dissertation material.

    Good morning,

Thanks for the suggestions. Anodising seems appealing. Was sort of contemplating that, having worked with anodised and blued alloys and steels of various kinds. Paint only occurred to me as it seemed more "authentic". Though the newer stands seem to be anodised rather than painted. Will see about someone to do this for me. The process is a little arduous at home. In the meantime other suggestions are most welcome
