Has anyone bought, seen or used one of these? If so, is it worth it?

It looks a lot like a Logan slim light pad that I have. You can get them from B&H for about the same price. It's not too bad for a $60-70 slim light box, and it's nice and portable, and cheap enough that you could use it as a display device for LF transparencies. I've thought of maybe building one into a frame and adding a timer like one finds on museum displays of things that shouldn't be exposed to light for long periods of time (like pastels, pen and ink drawings, etc.).

Hakuba, Kaiser, and Just Normlicht make similar products that are better (brighter, more uniform), but more expensive.

Just how bright are these things? I'm in the process of designing a light source for an 8x10 enlarger based on an old field camera...and seeing this got me thinking... (Always a dangerous thing...)

Not bright enough for an enlarger head, I'd say. You would be better off with a real cold light head from Aristo. Sometimes the 10x10" heads show up on eBay.

    David-

Thanks for the info. I'm going to stick with building my own light source (I'm a "do-it-yourself" kind of person).

I have a slightly smaller version: works very well. Very even light compared to a tube version.
Brightness is similar to a tube one. You might want to check the colour temperature of this particular unit though as it does not seem to be listed.

Have a look here ( LED Enlarger) if you are handy with a soldering iron and this APUG thread with some discussion on the LED enlarger.

    Cheers, Bob.
