    Dennis Ritchie passed away about a week after Steve Jobs on 12 October 2011. He was a computer scientist and I would say his contribution to the computer industry as a whole was very significant.

    That was a blast from the past. I still have the 1st edition of that book. I spent a few nights struggling with the chapter on pointers.

    Yeah, the 1st edition would have been even better. I grasp the syntax and concept of iterating over and manipulating a string quick enough with pointers. But using them in more complex structures in an application had me experiencing a lot of segmentation faults!
