    actually...I was almost thinking f/11 - but seemed too shallow...so maybe I was on the right track to split the difference?

    Question: what were you (light) filling with...something large, flat, and translucent? Really does justice to those metal surfaces!

    I thinks so.
    Yes a large white nylon sheet hanging in front of a window with overcast light provides the diffusion and reflection on the metal herb caps.

    Here's a fun one. I put a M42 mount Mamiya 55/1.4 on an extra lens board and shot it on my Pre-Anniversary Speed Graphic. The subject is a little 3D printed cat I made, I had to put the subject on the bed of the camera in order to focus. First shot is F1.4 second is F16.
