We shot this at night, after dark. The subject, an author, wanted an early morning, sunlit, casual, friendly and inviting look.

Yup, fooled me too!
I literally had about 3 mins to shoot this as she was checking out of a resort and before she got in a cab for the airport. So, the plan went bye-bye and I grabbed what I could in the time available. One light and a prayer...

These were shot with a D300, then heavily post processed. All were first converted to B&W then colorized with Corel Painter, along with other assorted tricks and mischief with PS and Topaz
Main camera left 8" Fresnel (strobe), fill (in the wrong place due to space) even further camera left 8' octabox, hair/kickers 2- 5' strip boxes high camera right and directly behind subject
fill flash from speedlight on flipflash bracket
4" Phillips Fresnel Hotlights for main and kick, fill is D800 set to auto fill with yellow topped Fong tupperware contraption to convert to tungsten (or close)

Wow! That is an amazing image from a compact camera. No blown highlights in the windows, nice tonal gradation, I seriously thought this was medium format film when I first saw it..
