We search the biggest Voigtländer-Camera!

we look for the largest existing Voigtlander camera (of the world) and have already searched the whole web and so a lot of books. Who has seen somewhere at home or what? We would be grateful for any tip!

If you are looking for cameras manufactured by Voigtlander, I believe the largest were 13x18cm format, such as the 1950's Studio Camera

and the Grand Salon Apperat E

80 x 100

We are looking for a Voigtlander Camera 40 x 50 cm or greater.

No, no and no!

Voigtländer did not make ANY wooden studio or Reisekameras.

The Voigtländer Report 3 by Claus Prochnow in Chapter 25 show a range of German-made cameras which is very close to your list . but these were made by others. The 13x18 mentioned by Tim is the only large format camera made by Voigtländer.

By the way, sizes larger than 30x40 (of which I have had 2) are very uncommon. These finished up in Printing establishments rather than ordinary Photography studiios and often suffered damage/drastic modifications.

Voigtländer bought the large wooden camera body and sold them with their lenses.

But under what name?

If you have an old (German) Wooden Camera 40 x 50 cm or larger with a Voigtlander lens?

Here are some names:

Möbelschreiner Wenzel, Wien. 1840's

Pietro del Vecchio, Leipzig.
Edmund Gabory.
M.J.Landauer, Kassel.
G.Gakio Sohn. Frankfurt-a-m.
1850's

Later makers og the Reise/Atelier cameras were either "Unbekannter" or mostly Görlitz companies.

I stop at 30x40cm reisekameraer - but there a few owners of the 40x50cm here I think.

well - I have a German made 40x50 camera... When I got it it actually did have a Voigtländer lens fitted, but in too small size for that format....

So now it has another lens fitted (not the one on the picture - and old Jamin cone lens..)
