Nice images--but don't the re-enactors and gear need to be dirtier?

I'm reading the new Rick Atkinson book right now--it would be cool to re-do specific incidents/battles.

I agree on both counts. I think there is an annual, multi-day reenactment in NM but it's rules of authenticity means nobody with modern clothing. . . or cameras get close. I don't think spectators are even allowed. It's sort of like the Heisenberg effect, the more modern "civilians" there, the harder to find an angle to shoot without them being in the shot etc.

Ahhh, but if you are talking WWII then there could easily be cameras and even movie cameras in the scene....

Very true. I should have said modern cameras. During the Waxahachie re-enactment I shot film before and after but digital (from outside the battle area) during the battle. Looking closer at one of my captures I see a re-enactor in the thick of battle. . . with a DSLR in his hands! Opps.

Great shots and re-enacting is a lot of fun, and good study of history. But usually the age and weight of the participants is skewed older/fatter than the actual age groups of the actual battles. That's what blows some of the shots for me, in WWII everyone was 18 - 30, and under 160 lbs usually!

    Re: WWII Re-Enactment

The last two WWII shots were from Gainsville, TX. They held their first re-enactment this year. The others are from this year's re-enactment in Waxahachie, TX, they put on a re-enactment every year, each year has a Flickr Group into which numerous photographers dump their shots. This year I talked to a couple of folks who were shooting film, but I didn't see anyone else using large format. I switched to digital for the action shots but enjoy using the Speed Graphic whenever I can.
