    schneider - kreuznach tele-xenar:4,8/200mm

    Greetings,

Does anyone have any information about this lens? I donot know its use but would like to use it in large format if possible (4x5).

Only other printing says compur which I assume is the mount type?

serial number is 11 506 094, so made in the 70's. I have found almost no info on this lens anywhere on the web! Thanks in advance

Never seen one, but I'd assume it is designed for smaller film sizes than 4x5 if it is a 200mm tele-xenar. Are you sure it isn't longer, maybe 300mm. A tele-lens is usually designed for use on a bellows which is short and won't extend out far enough to focus a normal lens of a particular focal length. Since a 210mm is a very standard sort of lens for 4x5, I would guess that almost all field or view cameras could easily accomodate 200mm. Compur is the brand of the shutter not a mount. Perhaps this was meant for use on a 6x7 or 6x9, smaller press or perhaps view camera. Or perhaps it is for some other purpose.

This may be a lens for a Kodak Retina 35mm.

"Compur" is a tradename for clockwork type shutters made by the Friedrich Deckel company of Munich, Germany.

The Tele-Xenar 200mm is not usable on 4x5" film. The shortest Tele-Xenar for LF was a 240mm for 9x12cm, and 270mm for 4x5". It might cover 6x9cm. See http://www.schneideroptics.com/info/vintage_lens_data/small_format_lenses/tele-xenar/ - note "small format".
