    If you use the Zone System, the tonal range of the subject (subject brightness ratio or SBR) requires you to use different film development times.

    7 Stops is a "normal" amount of SBR.

    So although the image was of quite low contrast, I made no adjustment in the development time of the film.

    If you are really interested in the Zone System there is an excellent book on the subject "Beyond the Zone System" by Phil Davis - available on Amazon.

    I like this, for it's simplicity and the close to the edge use of light on dark.

    It's not a great scan - too much soot and chalk but I cannot figure out how to fix it.
