V750 just died ..... now what???

I have had an EPSON V750 for less than 2 years and it has died from little to no use .... I am looking for suggestions on
a replacement unit - should I go back with an Epson or is there something else out there worth looking at.

    I mainly scan 8x10 neg's

    Thanks for any help!

For the price, the V700/V750 is still your best bet for LF negs. I think the main advantage of a V750 over the V700 is the wet mount holder? So if you don't need that, you can save a few $.

Whats wrong with it? It may be an easy fix.

Well he would still have the wet mount holder from the v750 that he could use with the v700 if he actually had to get a new one.

I thought the difference was in the lens, i.e. a better lens, or possibly two lenses on the 750 vs one on the 700. What do I know?
Either way, as richardman said, for the price, it's the best bet for scanning 8x10.
Worth looking into fixing, maybe just a belt that needs replacing?

If you do not scan larger then 5X7, and have a larger budget, you should go for an imacon.

I don't know what you mean by dead...in particular it depends on what are the symptoms of its death. However, there are good chances that your unit could be repaired. Mine started whining and making weird noises and finally "died". I was able to ressurect it by resoldering the cable that connects the top and bottom on the top side.

Tried scanning several neg's - weird multi color image came up - finally gave up - tried again
today - turned unit on, unit makes strange jammed (grinding) noises and normal green ready light
    is blinking red.

Unplug it , remove the cover a have poke around. It's already broken, you cannot hurt it any more. It may be that something has jammed the tracks.

Yep, very similar to what happened to mine. It is a bit of trouble to do it but if you open the top and resolder the broken wires it's as good as new. Before doing that you can try something: carefully try moving the cable that goes to the top unit to the inside. Be gentle but firm...as if the cable was getting out from the top and you wanted it back inside. Turn off, wait a few seconds and turn back again.
