super technika front standard does not lock in place?

Just been handed a super techinka (IV?) to play with, and the front standard does not lock in place. I can pull it off the base plate in the inner most position on to the bed, bu then it just slides around and nothing seems to lock it down. Am i missing something? All screws seems to be tight and i see anything else a miss...???

When the standard is at its base position inside the camera it seems to be holding on fairly firmly, however i can still pull it off without compressing the two black tabs on the front. Anyone?

Also - i cannot get the extension bed to pull out...??

It should, Bob Watkins is one of our service centers, let him take a look. But new parts from the factory are no longer available for a IV unless modern parts fit.

When the two tabs are released there’s a spring that engages the brake on the rails. There’s an excentric "washer" that controls how much the brake bites. Depending how much off-center this part is rotated, the more resistance on release. This is something simple to look at.

To pull out the slide you have to depress both sheet metal tabs at the same time. If it is sticky clean the old grease of and apply something like petroleum jelly lightly.

Towolf - the washer was oriented upside down with the wider part facing the front of the camera. I loosened the screw and rotated it, and it locks!!!
    Thanks so much!

Now for the second mystery - why does the extension bed not extend?

It just fees like the two parts of the focus bed are glued together. Is there a place where they seize or that i should oil?

Are you sure you are pressing down both buttons at the same time?

If yes, try to drizzle drops of naphta, lighter fluid, or some other suitable solvent between the rails with a pipette or something.
