Epson Scanner - weird mark on glass? Help?

    Hi everyone,

I bought an Epson V750 Scanner a few months ago and have been noticing strange rainbow colored marks on the glass. Here's a photo (it's those squiggly lines on her neck):

Is this something that can be fixed/cleaned off? Or is it "in" the glass? Have any of you experienced something similar with an Epson scanner?

    Thanks!!

Its the film surface contacting the glass at various points and causing interference patterns (Newton rings). Separate the film from the scanner glass by some method.

    You could try: http://betterscanning.com/

and consult Ken Lee's reference: http://www.kenleegallery.com/html/tech/scanning.php

That makes a lot of sense. I knew there had to be a downside to scanning the film right on the glass. Thank you!!

Are you putting the shiny side of the film against the scanner glass? That is likely to cause the Newton rings. Try scanning with the dull, emulsion side against the glass and then flip the image in post if necessary. That has worked for me with 8x10 HP5.

The V750 has plastic film carriers that support the film (away from the glass) while scanning.

Are you using those? What size film are you scanning?

If you believe you can, or you believe you can't... you're right.

    Exactly.
If scanning directly on the glass, make sure you are scanning emulsion side down.
If you're scanning 4x5, best to also get something like the BetterScanning holder so as to maximize scan quality on the v750.
8x10 works great right on the glass.

+1 on 8 x 10 flat on the glass emulsion down. 5 x 7 works OK that way as well, but for 4 x 5 and 5 x 7 I normally use the Epson wet mounting system because the center 5 1/2 inches of the Epson has a better lens.
