New Film: Raymond Depardon's Journal de France

This film, released at Cannes in 2012, is now being shown in the UK and is likely to show up in the U.S. in the near future. The fact that the UK release is apparently national (see The Guardian video review below) almost certainly means that there is now a version with subtitles in English.

If you live in Quebec, or have access via a Virtual Private Network to a Quebec server, it is available now from the National Film Board of Canada for 48 hour download rental. The NFB version, which I have not been able to access because my VPN uses an Ontario server, may well be without subtitles.

As recently as two weeks ago, the film was available in full on the internet, but I can no longer find the link. It may have been taken down.

Brief Wikipedia article (in French) on co-filmmaker, and Depardon's spouse, Claudine Nougaret: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claudine_Nougaret

If you speak French, there are several video interviews with Nougaret and Depardon about the film on YouTube and elsewhere.

The documentary was shot in 35mm on this camera: http://www.abelcine.com/store/Aaton-...e-35mm-Camera/

One thing is clear. Depardon has the spiffiest dark cloth ever.

I should have posted this in "On Photography". Perhaps a moderator could move it. Thanks.

I've posted this in the On Photography section, where it belongs, so this thread should be deleted.
