    Your "go-to" lens for a 5x7?

So as a theoretical or perhaps practical exercise, what lens (focal length wise) is your #1 go-to lens for your 5x7?

As a brief follow-up, you might say why that lens/focal length is your go-to choice.

    Thanks in advance!

(the thought occurred that if I could parse all 5x7 images posted to the forum and somehow extract what lens they were shot with, I would have my answer, but that would take some advanced data mining...)

180mm Schneider-S or any other decent 180. Why? It just is right about 80% of the time.

If I had to name one, it would probably be my 210mm, f6.3 Komura.

But I use some other (cheap/good) ones depending on task:
    Portraits/long: 380mm, f5.6 Wollensak, 10" 6.8 Conley V.
    Wides: 104mm f6.5 and 159mm f9.5 WA Raptars, 90mm f8 and 152mm f3.5 Komuras.
(Everything on small, Linhof sized boards).

    210mm

Normal -- because nothing in my life seems to be.

My other option is a Wollie Series IIIA Ex.WA f12.5 8x10 (6¼" / 159mm) -- why, because it is 'suppose' to cover 8x10 but doesn't...so on the 5x7 it goes. At least it is in a working shutter.

Nearly always 210, I tried 240 then 180 and settled in the middle. Maybe one of the nicest all round lens designs for 5x7 would be a 210 tessar such as 8 1/4 inch commercial ektar, 210 fujinar, some other tessar in that focal length. However lots of rise will not be possible, so if you need that then an inexpensive plasmat or a non gold ring 8 1/4 dagor would work.

210mm is my most used but I'm finding I grab the 180mm more and more these days.

Centar Series II 10.5/21" -- rebranded B&L Rapid Rectilinear convertible. (Equivalent to 56/112mm in 35mm format.)

9 1/2 golden Dagor in Copal, followed by the 6" dagor or WA Dagor followed by the 19" Artar

    180/315 Symmar, or 210 Fujinon-W. Also, 8-1/4" Dagor.
