Greg, I had been thinking of carrying my Mamiya 7 with me backcountry skiing this winter. After seeing that image, I guess I now HAVE to!

This one with a Fuji 6x9. I loved that Mamiya 6....great lenses (especially the 50mm) & w the lens collapsed ...as small & light as a Leica. Love those big negatives in the darkroom.

Nice! Are those spires granite? We don't have any of that around here...

The Mamiya 7 is a bit big and cumbersome - I'd like to try something smaller and lighter, but don't want to spend a ton of money. Do you think the Mamiya 6's I see on e-bay with zuiko lenses might be workable in the snow/cold? That would be a cheap way to try it out...

The photo is in the famous Bugaboo group of the Purcell Mountains. I've never used an original Mamiya 6 ... but i don't imagine the finder is much to write home about. An Ikonta or Super Ikonta 524/531 would be inexpensive as well.

These days my camera of choice is either a Rolleiflex T or a Plaubel Makina 670. The Rollelflex is surprisingly light and compact. As much as i liked the 'new' Mamiya 6, I tried the 7 for a while and didn't take to it. The collapsible nature of the 6 made it carry so well... (a quick pull on the lens hood & you're ready for business) that i also found the 7 unwieldy.

I had a Mamiya 7II for some time. It was a pretty light 6x7 but at the expense of some robustness, IMHO. I liked it and the optics were really good but in a flimsy housing where the thin, hard plastic aperture ring easily breaks as I found out. I hauled a Pentax 6x7 up Mt Rainer once. With a folding hood in lieu of the prism t's much lighter camera. But after that climb, I wanted to get a TLR because it would be a nice rectangle box with no big lens sticking out to stuff in your backpack.

Thanks for all the input. I wanted to get to the Bugaboos someday, but my rock climbing days are long past! I like my Mamiya 7 (not II), but I think it is more than I want to take out skiing. Might try an Ikonta, or will just use my micro 4/3 Olympus, which is fairly small and light. But I'm currently sort of obsessed with film...

I generally don't mind carrying a camera in a chest bag, unless I take a header onto my chest! And lovely print, by the way. I recall you posting that.
