Austin - I so hope I can get to see some of your work in person some day. In the above example...those dark shadows, those blacks...my guess (from what I can barely see) is that there is a richness that simply cannot be conveyed here. Frustrating!
I just got back from a quick visit to Seattle and was regularly reminded of the things Tuco, Austin, et.al see in the pacific northwest. Flying in at night I could see hilly areas enveloped in ground fog and I think of the graveyard photos with the fog, etc... There was plenty of overhead mist that didn't reach the ground like in Austin's photo above.. Got to descend through some of that. Got some miles in on foot walking in the city and saw those fleeting sunlight opportunities you guys sometimes get. Trees are different than here judging by watching out the light rail south of the city. I'd like to have spent more time.. It's got some similarities to my area in terms of climate, light, but is also very different!

John Layton, thanks for the vote of confidence. To be honest, there isn't a lot of detail in the shadows of the image above; it was before sunrise and still fairly dark. In general, pictures do lose a fair bit of quality on the computer screen. As for a show, I'm plotting something big for next year, though the place I'm plotting it to be in has no idea yet. :-) Wish me luck!
jp, I'm glad to you got a taste of the Pacific Northwest. One thing I like about living here is that, from my house in Portland, I can drive an hour west and reach the ocean, or alternatively, I can head east up the Columbia River Gorge and about an hour later, I'm in the sunshine, in a landscape that's almost desert. If you're ever in Portland, please don't hesitate to drop me a line. Here're some foggy cemetery photos:

Thomaston Maine. I really dig how smoothly things go into oof with the 75mm tessar... The depth of field, perpendicular lines, and the way the overcast light models on those shapes provides the separation of scene elements as needed.
