I've loved all of these John, but this one most of all. Beautiful bike. This one is a bit more abstract and the tones are beautiful.

Today I went out to a remote and not very well-known archaeological site, where a Native American settlement from around 1000 A.D. is located. There's a lot of mystery and rumors around this site, and some outlandish claims regarding its inhabitants, but I won't get into that. What I did do was bushwack pretty far into the woods to find this site and explored about half of the area, where rock walls, terraced agricultural areas, and other interesting remains are found in all directions. I didn't quite make it, but apparently there is evidence of a central raised ceremonial area at the head of the settlement area. Next time.

A couple of photos. Here is a stone pile I found that bears a strong resemblance to the burial piles I have seen at nearby Native American historical sites:

Ha, Nacoochee Valley? At any rate, even in "historical" times there was much to-ing and fro-ing there along the Savannah River as first the Westoes (Iroquoian-speaking refugees from the Great Lakes) and then the Shawnee (the eponymous "Savannah's) took up the role of Charles Town's buffer state with Spanish Florida, each tribe having aspirations of solidifying its position as a "middle man" for trade goods passing to and from the backcountry, especially as part of the burgeoning Indian slave trade.
