    With apologies to Gertrude Stein,

I just stumbled across these auctions on the great auction site:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Carl-Zeiss-2...-/151116388323 and http://www.ebay.com/itm/Prontor-Pres...-/360697638831 .

80/2.8 Planar cells in Prontor Press #1 shutters. Not LF, medium format. Honi soit que mal y pense. BTW, Google Translate doesn't get this right.

As it happens, I was given a set of 80/2.8 Planar cells some years ago. I had a Prontor Press #1 ready to hand, tried to put my new treasures in it. The front cell went in, the rear cell hit the diaphragm before it was fully seated in the shutter.

Serial numbers? Those on offer, 4462939, 4463072. Mine, 4463123. I think they're all the same design.

    Gertrude got it wrong.

Snakes in the grass, alas. Not pigeons.

I'm happy to see the Stein reference even if I have no idea what you're talking about.

Paul, I didn't mean to be quite that Steinish. I posted to draw attention to a pair of outstanding eBay sellers. The lens cells won't work properly in the shutters they're offered with.

    Cheers,

    Dan

Dan, your Norman is rusty. "Honi soit qui may y pense". Gertrude was wrong about a few things... (that's a laughing smiley, btw)

Thanks for catching my typo, E. In return, mal, not may. Typos propagate more readily than crabgrass.
