    cheap 18x24 wide lens

I have posted this on Apug, but there were no answers. so I try again in this forum:

after years of mf and 4x5 with an old linhof technikardan I did the first jump: I bought an old russian 18x24 wooden camera and an industar 300mm lens (no shutter). I want to use it with harman direct paper for outdoor stills on wasteland and decaying buildings. I did this in 4x5 but the images were too small. I don't have a real budget, it's just testing if it works and get some better material later.

but I would love to have a wide angle lens. a shutter wouldn't be necessary but would be a nice option for later use with film. it should cover 300mm at least, a bit more for some movements would be nice. it could be an old lens and I'm able to do some diy. what are your ideas for a cheap lens? thanks in advance for your input.

A 120mm/14 Perigraphe might be an option. No shutter but very small, light and rather cheap. They regularily go for less than 100 Euros here in Germany. I paid 120 for mine, but it came mounted on a sinar lensboard.

There are a lot of anon. wide angled RR/Aplanat lenses around from the 1890-1910 period. The trademark lenses like Lynkieoskop and Perigraphe can be a bit pricey. Perhaps a better idea would be the standard Goerz series III (also known as Dagor) which has very good coverage when used with small apertures. Wide-angled Protars are IMO not better performers. Not so expensive as they used to be for non-ULF sizes.

Wollensak makes a 6.5" in both an F9 and an F11(?) model. It covers 8x10 with a hair of room to spare, and 18x24 is not that much different.

A 210mm Angulon has plenty of coverage, a 165mm just adequate, and a 120mm will cover at VERY small stops. With a Russian 18x24cm plate camera they are all useable. I have used a 121mm Super Angulon on 8x10", and it just covered - but for contact prints I would (at least sometimes) prefer an old uncoated 120mm plain Angulon.

thank you for your answers. I bought a Wollensak EXWA 6 1/2 f/12,5 without shutter for a mere 75$ on etsy. a perigraphe sounds interesting, but seems to have gone up in prices. same thing for the angulons except the 120. as schneider gives a mere 211mm as image circle for the 120, I didn't go for it.

I have made a little list of the information I found on these lenses. if you find more to add, please feel free to copy the list and add your information.
