I shot this plate yesterday outside my studio in Savannah. It was misty and grey 20 second exposure. Ole workhorse collodion

A new 5x7 plate from yesterday: a simple Tulips-in-a-vase study, natural light. Shot with my recently acquired Voightlander Petzval lens, circa 1852.

I was walking through Savannah a couple weeks ago and saw a shop one evening with a tintype in the window of the Forsyth Park fountain. Was that your studio? Next time I am in Savannah I would love to see your place and perhaps get a plate made!

I started fiddling with another piece of acrylic tonight actually and busted that one. Finally pulled out my more complete drill set and carefully drilled out the acrylic holes bigger and bigger by 1/64" steps and it worked. Here's the finished product, showing the nut stand-off better:
If you can find someone with a laser cutter (a high school or local business maybe?) you can cut the entire piece with ultra precise and clean holes. The heat melts the edges of the cut acrylic and leaves them crystal clear. You would probably need to create a dxf file of the layout, and try a sheet of test holes as the laser beam has a width and cuts the holes slightly larger.

I've cut everything from lens boards to the framework for a skateboard-wheeled wiper-powered rotary base on the laser cutter at our local high school...

Maybe far too high tech, I (like maybe many here) enjoy film photography as an antidote to the increasingly digital workplace

A good idea for larger throughput, but for the amount I might do at a given moment, probably a bit overkill. It took me a bit to suss it out, but with care and patience using a regular drill works okay. I did get one of those "stepped" drill bits but it didn't work well for me.
