Dumb question: Why do some look like "regular" black and whites and some look like they are toned?

things that affect tone (just few):
    fixer

Mostly scanner/photoshop choices. I prefer a sepia tone to mine that tries to resemble the varnished plate.

Um, the developer timing and the fixer choices cause the coffee tones on wetplates. It's not an artificial thing added by photoshop. Though some people do have their scanning process set up wrong, and it gives more warm tones than the actual plate has.

Care to explain how some of us have our scanning process set up wrong? It is a scan. What does it matter if it has "more warm tones" than the actual plate?
