    Sinar doodad... what is this?

I just got my new-to-me Sinar 4x5 F2 today (in GREAT shape, it even came with a box!). I am puzzled by one item that was in the box. See pictures.Click image for larger version.

It is a device which prevents the lensboard from falling out after moving the slide. I have never seen one in use, but have seen quite a few for sale.

Ah! Thank you! And I figured out where it goes after you said what it does.

I use mine a lot. When my camera is not in use, I wrap my cable release around my lens and rest it in that doodad. It holds it nicely. When my camera is in use, I place my cable release over it and it keeps my cable release from flopping in front of my lens. It has aslo saved me many times from my lens falling to the ground

I think it was standard on late model Sinars; my 8x10 p2 and 4x5 f2 both came with one.

My P2 has one, and it's a nice thing to have when you're unlocking a big lens on a DB board.
My darkroom used to be a meat freezer.

Hmm, didn't know these were available, I've got some hefty chunks of glass that I use with my 8x10 P2, so might spring for one. (165mm SA being one that I _really_ don't want to break)
