    Re: June Portraits

I hope I'm not bending the rules (!) but here are two equine portraits I recently took of some Shire horses with my Toyo 45C on Astia 100.

Re: Would this make a good loupe?

Thanks a lot for all the replies! I've decided to go for a cheapy 8x Hama to start off with, and then I can move on to something fancier once I know what I want.

    Re: March Portraits

Posting here rather than in the May thread because they were taken in March :) three portraits from a series I'm doing on street musicians in Berlin. All taken on a Toyo 45C with 135 mm on Portra 400...

Re: Show Me Your Night Shots!

Thanks guys. Yeah, it's a great emulsion and upon messaging them they said they were hoping to have it out in 4x5 by the end of the year so fingers crossed they do actually go through with it!

Re: Damage to film box - film compromised?

Thanks for all the input everyone. The film came out great! No damage at all and I would definitely recommend Cinestill, it has a really nice tonality to it.

Re: Show Me Your Night Shots!

    Hi guys,

It's good to see this thread still going! I had a great time shooting some Cinestill 800T 4x5 film in Berlin and wanted to share some photos from the trip.

Re: Damage to film box - film compromised?

Thanks for the advice everyone, the film was in a light tight bag and the dent didn't make it all the way through so that's a weight off my shoulders?

Damage to film box - film compromised?

    Hi,

I will be travelling to Berlin with the intention to take some large format photo whilst I'm there. Whilst packing a box of Cinestill 800T for the trip, I noticed that something had partially...
  10. Re: Feasability of selling Impossible Project 8x10 prints on the street?

Thanks for the advice! I've looked at the emulsion lift and it does look very nice (and probably the only viable way to present the prints to the customer.) I was looking at the Calumet processors...
  11. Re: Feasability of selling Impossible Project 8x10 prints on the street?

Bingo! Yeah, he was quite the character. Half tried to sell me a Crown Graphic for $2000. I said that that was way too much so he said 'ok, $5000.' Made my day [emoji38]

    Re: Epson 4990 resolution question

Oh okay thanks for the details. Just managed to snag a mint 4990 with all the accessories and holders for $100; super happy about that! If I can squeeze 1800 or maybe even 2000 dpi out of the scanner...

    Re: Epson 4990 resolution question

Thank you so much for that clarification! So specifically for 8x10 the 4990 is actually better than the v700/750 since it uses a single lens which has a higher resolution than the low resolution lens...
  14. Re: Feasability of selling Impossible Project 8x10 prints on the street?

This is something I've been considering as well, always the caveat with using reducing backs of any kind! Impossible Project should soon be releasing a colour version of their 8x10 film, which should...

    Epson 4990 resolution question

    Hi everyone,
I'm considering purchasing an Epson 4990 scanner to scan 8x10 negatives and slides and was wondering what exactly is the highest amount of detail that the scanner can resolve at for...
  16. Re: Feasability of selling Impossible Project 8x10 prints on the street?

Thanks for all the advice and insights everyone! It's awesome that this thread has garnered so much input from the forum. I think the general consensus is that 8x10 prints would only appeal to a very...
  17. Re: Feasability of selling Impossible Project 8x10 prints on the street?

I agree, I think the relative immediacy of the IP film makes it a more viable option. Does anyone know if you need a license to just plonk your camera down somewhere and charge for photos?
  18. Re: Feasability of selling Impossible Project 8x10 prints on the street?

What's the name of the new film? Sounds intriguing
  19. Re: Feasability of selling Impossible Project 8x10 prints on the street?

8x10 instant film is pretty unique! ;) Wet plate is obviously amazing as well. Actually the dev time is around 4 minutes, which is quite feasible. Glad to see one person has made it work, albeit with...
  20. Re: Feasability of selling Impossible Project 8x10 prints on the street?

In terms of economics, I'm not too worried about making back my money too soon, since I'd really like to have an 8x10 anyway to complement my Hasselblad 500. However, I'll definitely try and be as...
  21. Re: Feasability of selling Impossible Project 8x10 prints on the street?

Wow, that's a lot of lookie loos for one sale! Could I ask how much you were charging for a print?
  22. Re: Feasability of selling Impossible Project 8x10 prints on the street?

Sounds just like the mysterious photographer I mentioned speaking to in my initial post!
  23. Re: Feasability of selling Impossible Project 8x10 prints on the street?

This is exactly my thought, although I could probably get away with around £20-35, since the film is £13 per sheet. I think it all depends on demand really. I need to find an area with plenty of...
  24. Feasability of selling Impossible Project 8x10 prints on the street?

    Hi everyone,
I was chatting recently to a street photographer in New York who made some of his money selling passers-by 4x5 instant prints of themselves for about $20-30 per print and I've been...

  27. Re: Storing (mostly expired film) whilst backpacking in South America

Thanks for the tips everyone! I'm gonna put a few boxes (double ziplocked) in a small cool bag with two mini freezeboards (which I'll stick in any freezer I happen to come across!) and then put that...
  28. Re: Storing (mostly expired film) whilst backpacking in South America

I see your point but I'll be travelling up through San Francisco and New York as well so I need a little variety in films. Maybe I'll just stick to the Astia and Portra. Hard decision really to...
  29. Re: Storing (mostly expired film) whilst backpacking in South America

Um, because that's the only type of Astia and Portra 100T as far as I know! I'll bring some in-date 160NS and Portra 400 but I prefer the tonality of the aforementioned two.
  30. Storing (mostly expired film) whilst backpacking in South America

    Hi everyone,
I'll be jetting off to South America in a couple of days and intend to bring my 4x5 and a selection of films (mostly colour i.e. Portra 100T, Fuji 160NS, Astia 100F) which are mostly...
