I use a 240 Sironar and it has fantastic resolution . With Velvia I had it drum scanned, enlarged to 60inches wide and honestly can count the sharp blades of grass 100 feet from the camera position....

I found one for sale and am thinking of changing from my ancient Schneider Componon 360mm The Gerogon is current ( well at least recent) . Is this a worthwhile change? I usualyl enlarge 8x10 to...
Anything shot with an 8x10 camera is Art. Even a simple pepper.
Cant do that with a velvia 50 transparency.
What do I want? Peace on Earth! What will I settle for? A scanned image from 8x10 that can easily and with high quality enlarge 4X or with luck 6X. Any thing more will go to a drum scanner pro.
8x10 is addictive. Looking at that wonderful upside down reversed image on the 8x10 Ground Glass is what make the mind think in terms of Composition. It is nto at all like looking through a lens or...
Or will I have a better result if I use my Nikon 800E to digitize my 8x10 film? I have the light box already Has anyone tried this?
I have read the answers and they are of no help . Treat this as deleted. I found my answers in threads from 2015 and several other experienced 8x10 photographer's web sites.
With the 8x10 people are "engaged" , They want to be part of a unique process. not just another digital snap. Karsh painted his 8x10 White to inpress and the subjects responded. When I use my...
Weston was THE Master of Pyro. The tones he had were the difference.
I know the Ilford special order has likely run out . Who presently has 16x20 film?
When you " upgraded" to the more recent lens was there any real difference in the sharpness of the print? I have the silver Componon 360 and of course want the newer Rodagon, but is it really a...
Let me chime in again. I would recommend you move to a camera made for table top work. With more movement and more bellows. Even the old green monster, the Calumet, can do well. The Intrepid is...
The G-Claron 355mm is made for close up work. It is a "normal" lens . Not heavy. You will have good room to make the set ups and flexibility. Going in close with the 210, 250 is like shooting table...

was the bag open when you bought it? Or was the bag inside the boxes intact with original seal?
How do you like working with the Deardorff V11? I missed buying one last year and still have the need to find one. Primarily for portraits. I have Fuji 600mm for my 8x10 and it will cover 11x14.
I use the old Kodak 2D in Magnesium , rare but very light and solid. Then I use a Gitzo carbon fiber tripod with a small head. Cannot remember model numbers. I do like the Rodenstock 240mm Symmar and...
With Summer here I have been shooting Provia in my 8x10 . But I have seen some pics by Dan Winter and Greenfield Sanders. They used Portra and the skin tones were superb. have you had experience with...
X ray needs to be modified. Not easy to do. I saw a film processor on Ebay from Germany but it has NO internal rollers !!! that's the whole point to have the rollers
I have Crown and find it is easy to use hand held I also have the Grafmatic back with 6 shots and that is an awesome combo. Just be cautious of the focus. Remember "F 8 and Be There " Like WeeGee...
Shortening has the "Correct" tear look and is sometimes used in place of icecream .
A wonderful composition It could be redone with B&W and dramatic lighting to create a Film Noir Effect In fact I am inspired to do just that today.
Thank ALL for the helpful advice !! Happy Easter!!
Slould I use Xtol to develop? I understand it is good to preserve speed? I usually use HC110 or Rodinal . Is Xtol better for this frozen and old film? I ask because I can buy some and have it...
I found two boxed (25 each) of FP4 in 8x10 frozen since 2002 and now expired since 2004. Always frozen. Should I shoot it? what speed? any compensation? What will I end up with if I do use it? If...
Where is this picture taken? Where were you ? I am going to the Grand Canyon and would like to see this vista.
I do want to thank Everyone for their help and guidance . This si so very refreshing and helpful . I am excited to go and I know this will be my First trip but not my last.
This being my First visit I think the "same old" will be fantastic. Maybe on later visits I will go for more detail and exploratory views. I had wanted to include B&W but I will have 25 sheets of...
I will have a long digital I have only four nights this trip and with 8x10 getting even four shots in a day is success. I know there is reason to bring a long lens. However I am limited by Carry-on...
Thank You This is inspiring.
I have COKIN filters in grads. I will be doing digital first to see what is best set up , I mean when each 8x10 Velvia or Provia is $30 I want to make sure the composition and exposure will work....
I understand . Thank you for the sage advice. I have to travel light and will be at the south rim only. Four days does not give much time to really "do it all" I expect I will come back again in...
I don't agree with the lens choice you recommend, I will have my 240mm and 155mm. To me the point is to record the expanse. I have already spoken with some other very well respected Large Format...
I was postponed by cancer last year and this year I AM GOING. I will be stayin at ElTorvar and have my Kodak Magnesium 8x10 with 240mm Sironar and a 155 Grandagon. Carbon fibre manfroto and 26 sheets...
I use the Manfrotto 400. Perfection, control steady. cannot be beat.
I was saying the added weight over a 1200 ELB is about 11 lbs. I know I will need a wheeled cart to do location work . I will use this for portraits where there is no electric and where the sun is...
