Re: LPL 4550XL + Heiland LED Explainer?

You might try contacting George Brown (seller "apogeebee" on eBay) to see whether he works on enlarger power supplies. He does work on heads - a few years back he CLA'd my 4500II dichroic head after...

  11. Re: Archival Rating of The New Gen 5 Ilford RC Multigrade Deluxe Papers?

Larry, keep in mind that we don't really know what to say about the permanence of current FB papers either. AFAIK there is no information available to the public about the characteristics of the...
  12. Re: Archival Rating of The New Gen 5 Ilford RC Multigrade Deluxe Papers?

Aardenburg has been testing inkjet papers only.

EDIT: OK, that's wrong - some years back he ran a handful of samples of both Fuji Crystal Archive exposed in a Frontier 390, and Ilford Galerie...

There is no "archival rating", official or otherwise.

If you would like to understand what is known about the permanence of RC papers, read chapter 12 in Ctein's Post Exposure book. He has kindly...

  21. Re: Some naive questions about helicoid focusing for large-format

Yes, I think many of us figure out through experience some seat-of-the-pants approach that's "good enough" and lets us work quickly in the field.
  22. Re: Some naive questions about helicoid focusing for large-format

Understood, the issue that prompted your post is whether your helical is miscalibrated. How to use the scale effectively in practice once the calibration is correct is a separate question, but it...
  23. Re: Some naive questions about helicoid focusing for large-format

To use a depth of field scale, table or calculator effectively, it helps to learn about how depth-of-field is calculated. There is no one set of depth of field numbers that is "correct" for a given...

Re: High-Speed Sync for Speed Graphic

What Tobias said. The relevant parameter isn't the marked shutter speed, it's the curtain travel time, because that's the duration during which some part of the sensor or film is being exposed.

  39. Re: Scanner, enlarger, or contact printer? Which one and why???

But if you're going to use the enlarger solely as a light source, you don't need a 4x5 enlarger. The dinkiest small-format enlarger will do.

My bias: I adore contact prints, of any size. Most...
