Re: Lens Not Focusing, What is the Cause?

Not quite right. There are two solutions, not one, unless magnification is 1:1. Otherwise there are two magnifications for every film-to-subject distance.

    If film-to-subject distance is 1000mm...
  3. Re: Two Schneider-Kreuznach MAKRO SYMMAR HM 120mm lenses with different back elements

Check the focal lengths. The lower lens is much larger than the upper one. Don't screw around with mixing and matching cells, those lenses are best used as they were delivered.
  4. Re: How different are Tessars from different companies?

Not at all. The prescriptions are different.
  5. Re: How different are Tessars from different companies?

 f/6.3ers have more coverage than f/4.5ers but I'm not aware that Commercial Ektars have more coverage than f/6.3ers.
  6. Re: How different are Tessars from different companies?

Sorry, can't help you. Look for a copy of A Lens Collector's Vade Mecum, which gives some chronology, or, better yet, Hartmut Thiele's Fabrikationsbuchs.

I believe that the various vintages all...
  7. Re: How different are Tessars from different companies?

Interesting assertions about sharpness, whatever that means, no MTF or resolution measurements to support them.
  8. Re: How different are Tessars from different companies?

Hmm. Tessars from the same company aren't always the same.

In the beginning, Carl Zeiss Jena made f/4.5 and f/6.3 Tessars. The 6.3ers had usefully more coverage than the 4.5ers. Over time the...

    Re: Doppel Anastigmat Symmar f:6.8

The VM says the dagor type Symmar was discontinued in 1954, contradicts itself and says some focal lengths were available into the 1960s, possibly as new old stock. That's the VM.

    Rare? I dunno....
  10. Re: "The big two" - Please tell me about your japanese lenses!

Hmm. I have, sometimes even use, Fujinon, Nikon, Schneider and Rodenstock lenses. I have, also sometimes use, lenses from manufacturers in other countries, including France, the UK and the US. All...

Re: Kit recommendations for a complete beginner

Bertie, I shoot Graphics (2x3, not 4x5) and a Cambo SC (also 2x3, a smaller version of the 4x5s). I like my little Graphics but they're limited; their only generally usable movement is front rise. ...

    Re: 31.15mm Threads?

Short answer, Ilex and Wollensak shutters don't interchange.

Re: 8x10 Macro Photography lens Question

    Yeah, so what?

This discussion is not about the wonders of 8x10, it is about which lens might meet the OP's needs well enough.

Re: 8x10 Macro Photography lens Question

    Yeah, so what?

The point of fuegocitos' test shots is that all of his lenses separated fine details equally well. And they did.

Re: 8x10 Macro Photography lens Question

Thanks for the reply. At 1:1, f/16 set is f/32 effective. I don't know how much you enlarged your crops, but at that effective aperture the diffraction limit is around 50 lp/mm, maximum enlargement...

Re: 8x10 Macro Photography lens Question

Papi, you didn't understand. A shorter lens will have less, not more, coverage given magnification. Reversing it won't change that.

When working close up, we use short lenses when we want high...

Re: 8x10 Macro Photography lens Question

To expand a little on what Doremus already said if you have one ready to hand and enlarging lens would be a good starting point. He didn't mention that for use at magnifications greater than 1:1 the...

  22. Re: Can you mount any 4x5 lenses in shutters from folding cameras?

It depends on the shutter and on the lens. The shutter as to be as thick -- tube length -- as the lens requires and its tubes have to be threaded to accept the lens' cells. I have a couple of...
  23. Re: Seeking Advice For Shutter on Vintage Lenses
