    Re: Portraits June 2019

    +1 Beautiful portraits!
  3. Re: Eastman View No. 1 Acquired & Looking to Refurbish it but I'm A Newbie to Lg Form

Nice restoration project! how are things going?
If you search for an original barrel lens, then look for 7x9 lenses since 5x7 is too small for whole/full plate camera's.
    But you should know that...
  4. Re: Rayments Patent camera - who has one? - need some measures

Thanks again Andrew, 'll let you know as soon as the project is heading further...
  5. Re: Rayments Patent camera - who has one? - need some measures

Still very busy at my regular work before the holidays start.
Indeed I always do restoration 'at specs as' you call it (just restored a full plate Eastman camera which had a broken brass part),...
  6. Re: Rayments Patent camera - who has one? - need some measures

Here's a picture of the Perken plateholder with the metal tabs - it has the same innards as yours Andrew:

  7. Re: Rayments Patent camera - who has one? - need some measures

Interesting...it differs from mine...which has very flat metal strips as tabs at the end of the dark slides....will take a picture when I get home ...
  8. Re: Rayments Patent camera - who has one? - need some measures

    Lucky for me....
Just for comparison, could you show a picture of the plateholders that came with your cameras?
  9. Re: Rayments Patent camera - who has one? - need some measures

I thought only the full plate camera had two - does your half plate have also two?
  10. Re: Rayments Patent camera - who has one? - need some measures

Just one.....I'll upload a picture asap
    here you go...

As you can see, mine is also missing the patent label. A 'straight taken' (perpendicular?) photo of that part might help to replicate it as...
  11. Re: Rayments Patent camera - who has one? - need some measures

thanks Andrew, I guess the 'standard' lens for the half plate was the Perken, Son & Rayment Rapid Euryscope 5 x 7 which would cover completely; a lens which I would like to get hold of after I have...
  12. Re: Rayments Patent camera - who has one? - need some measures

Thank you Andrew, by a second look, it would help if you could also provide the height of the middle panel (A) and of the two breadboards (B & C):

  13. Re: Rayments Patent camera - who has one? - need some measures

    Thank you Drew,

As posted before in the meantime I bought a very beautiful and perfectly matching piece of Honduran Mahogany from an English luthier. He has more wood if needed, so for now the...
  14. Re: Rayments Patent camera - who has one? - need some measures

Many Thanks Andrew, at last someone who really has the camera and taken the measures! Indeed with your help measuring the outlines I think I can go further now.
I'll try to print your picture of...
  15. Re: Rayments Patent camera - who has one? - need some measures

Until now no good luck with seeking the correct measures. There was a nice member @ APUG who at first site seemed to have a comparable camera with lens panel, but it turned out his is quite a bit...

    Re: Lubricant for lens thread

If the threads (and the rest of the objective) is partly made from light metal, like magnesium alloy or aluminum, I have very bad experience with silicon grease - it will stiffen the working of the...

  18. Re: Any information on Camille Desmoulins lenses?

From the website I get the idea this catalogue is out of stock - he asks if anyone else has one for sale...
  19. Re: Rayments Patent camera - who has one? - need some measures

Thanks Havoc, one of their shops is close by, but they stated that they do not sell this particular wood anymore. As answered to Steven, I'll have a look in second furniture stores.
  20. Re: Rayments Patent camera - who has one? - need some measures

Thank you Steven for having a look at the board and for the wood. It is probably the most beautiful type of Mahogany - the light really reflects looking at the wood from different angles - almost...
  21. Rayments Patent camera - who has one? - need some measures

Recently I acquired a Perken, Son & Rayment camera. It is the so called Rayment's Patent camera; this one is half plate. The camera is however not complete: it is missing a lensboard and a lens, and...

    Re: Big Sur Camping

A lot of great spots to shoot. Was there about 10 years ago and took this one with my first digi cam, Epson RD-1.....heading to San Simeon
Can be very foggy there, but lucky for me the fog was...

Re: 7x11 Modified Rochester Optical Design and Build

Thank you Michael for sharing your considerations on these matters. Anyway, if the butt joints don't seem strong enough in the future, you could always put in some dowels to reinforce the joints....

Re: 7x11 Modified Rochester Optical Design and Build

Nice, very nice indeed. Since it is quite a big camera with large pieces of wood used - did you consider to join the parts for the frames with finger joint or - like they did in the old days - dove...
  28. Re: Show your self made bug home / Insect Hotel

Thank you BOB, indeed I meant actually the plane of focus, since the camera was not standing perpendicular in front of the bug house, so therefore only little sharpness in the plane of focus.
  29. Show your self made bug home / Insect Hotel

There must be quite some LF-ers here who are little (or big) wood-choppers as well....I'm not actually, but few weeks ago started tinkering with some wood boards which were laying in my garden shed....

    Re: Compound Shutter Repair

Sometimes the driving ring is stuck or needs cleaning and lubrication. In order to disassemble it, you need a special tool, which you can make from of a screwdriver:

  31. Re: Restoring brass of a Thornton Pickard dryplate camera?

Are you sure its from the early 1900's? Perhaps the use of plating became more common during WWI - the government needed the brass for gun-making? For sure your camera won't have bronze parts since...

  33. Re: DIY light-tight material for bellows

Indeed nicely done. I'm into making myself some bellows for a half plate 1910 British camera, however looking from pictures the orginal bellows had straight corners.

  35. Re: Zeiss Ikon Ideal 225, interchangeable lenses?

Indeed the Ica and Zeiss Ikon Ideal 225 (9x12cm) had interchangable lens/shutter combo's, like all Ideal cam's: you could mount a 135mm, 150mm, 165mm or even 180mm lens/shutter. The lenses came...

Re: Show off your Large Format camera!

Indeed, however that there was no standardization with respect to their camera's and plateholders, is new to me. So I understand you don't plan to shoot the actual camera-plate-size, i.e. half plate...

IMHO a very special camera was auctioned today. I have no relation to the seller, but want to share the sale since it is such a special camera - and this one seems in very good health:
