Jesse - thanks much for the offer, but I actually acquired one shortly after I initiated this thread. And ... I love it!
Thanks everyone for your contributions.

Hi - I think this is a wonderful shot! Are you using the Caffenol CM recipe from Reinhold's site (caffenol.blogspot.com)? I've just started trying to use the same film/developer combination...
Thanks Frank. I now have one on the way, so we'll see how it works out; I'm looking forward to using it.
Duane
Brian - thanks for the additional response.
As I'm looking at a few candidates on the auction site, I notice that some are labeled "Norma." Would this fit the rail clamp of my F1?
Thanks!...
Oh thanks Rick - now I can visualize it!
Thanks again all, I appreciate your responses.

Thanks Frank!
So with the Sinar head the tilt is front-to-back, correct? If so, how is side-to-side leveling accomplished? With the tripod legs? I'm currently using an old borrowed Bogen 3-way...
Hi All,
I have a very basic question - could someone explain the advantages of the Sinar pan/tilt head for Sinar monorails (I have an F1)? There are many recommendations for them on this forum,...
Just a heads-up; the Colorado Rockies this year have had record snowfall and snowpack levels, so be prepared. According to the Park website, Old Fall River Road is still closed, and Trail Ridge Road...
Hi Engl - for daylight tank processing you could also try this modified taco method with an inexpensive stainless steel tank:

Sandy - may I ask which two-bath developer you would recommend to produce edge effects? Although I currently use a consumer HP scanner, I may now and then want to have an image drum-scanned.

I just use a stainless steel Kinderman tank designed for two 120 reels and wrap my sheets in tubing made out of window screen material (a modified "Taco" method). I can process four sheets at a time...
I just bent a wire hanger into the 4x5 shape, and attached a string with marked dots for the focal lengths to one corner. That way I can see what's going to be out of the frame as well as in.
Sorry - bad link cut-n-paste! Try this one:

Hi Arthur - I've had success with this version of the taco method:

I've used this method successfully:

Welcome!
I'm just up the street from you near the Botanic Gardens. I shoot mostly 4x5 and 6x6. I'm still a software developer, though!

Al - it's not any more convenient for you, but there's also Denver Digital Imaging Center (The Slideprinter) in Denver. I've used them for 35mm and have been happy with the results. Looks like they...
For outside the Park - you might also consider the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area to the south. The Brainard Lake area is beautiful and easily accessible.

Thanks for your replies. Interestingly, Paul H, my last 35mm roll before these sheets was also muddy, and I didn't think much of it at the time - I was using an Olympus 35 RC and Fuji Neopan - both...
Has anyone who uses Diafine ever experienced what appears to be a complete failure of the developer? I just ran 8 sheets today through my normal, successful process (4 sheets taco style wrapped in...
Hey John - I posted a similar question last February (http://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/showthread.php?t=23588). I received some great suggestions, but ended up going with a Tiltall and I...
Ed, thanks so much for posting this idea. I'm new to LF (< 1 year), and was getting very unsatisfactory results in my daylight tanks that I use for 35mm and 120 (since I don't have a dark space, I...
How about HP? I have the ScanJet 4890, which has 4x5 and roll film holders; it cost me $170 new a few months ago. Now apparently there's a newer model.

Hi Chris,
Welcome. I'm new here, too, and I also live in Denver. I have a Graflex Graphic View II as my first camera, and I've almost got everything I need with the exception of a sturdier...
Thanks to you all for your kind replies!
I hadn't thought about the surveyor tripod feet issue when using it indoors. I think I'm going to err on the side of weight/stability and wait for a good...
Hi All,
This is my first view camera, and I can tell after one outing that I need to replace my old flimsy Vivitar tripod (I knew I would have to anyway; I was just stalling). And, the...
Yep - Gimpshop!
Thanks, Everyone for the continued suggestions - I appreciate it!
How about agitation with 4x5 and Diafine? Are the principles similar to 35mm?
Thanks again,
Duane
Thanks, Bob and Ron.
No darkroom yet - I'm still a changing bag/daylight tank kind of guy! I'll do some research on the slosher method, however. Perhaps it would be worthwhile to try to black...
Hi All,
I'm new to 4x5 and would like to develop my own B&W film. I already do this using Diafine for my 35mm rangefinder work, so it's a process with which I'm somewhat familiar. However, I'll...
