    Re: Reveni spot meter

In short, yes you can look at it like that, ie. when configured for 1/3 stop steps, in aperture mode the SW computes the closest shutter time in 1/3 steps, without providing the fractional stop...

Yes that would work ó but changing modes and setting it up as you describes takes longer than what my patience is willing to takeÖ. Can you imagine saying, wait let me make sure I did this right, so...

Sure. First let me say that this may not apply to others, this is just my own metering flow combined with trying to be particularly accurate when I shoot slides when light conditions are quickly...

I just wish they hadnít removed the rounding reminder in the latest sw version. Itís effectively a whole stop only meter, or else I need to mentally compute things if I set it to 1/3ís stops, which I...

Re: Harrison vs Wanderer 8x10 Dark Cloth

Iíve gone through them all, including the Wanderer/BTSZ/Dark Cloth/Harrison.

I mostly use the Harrison one (Large) with my 8x10 when I go out. Itís very light and easy to use. The 94Ē in length...

    Not again! :-)

This has been discussed to death here and on APUG. For example:

    Re: Fujinon 125mm f/5.6 W (old version)

The above suggestions are standard but itís not uncommon to shift depending on what youíre going to shoot.

For example many times I mostly bring and shoot 75 and 150 mm.

    Other times 90, 150...
  11. Epson v800 8x10 transparency vertical banding

  12. Re: Epson v800 8x10 transparency vertical banding

I also took the image and applied a 30 clarity and a 30 dehaze in camera raw filter in PS. It shifted the overall level but the banding remained quite the same, a +/-2 % from 56 to 60.

    Of course...
  13. Re: Epson v800 8x10 transparency vertical banding

So I just took a new 8x10 x ray sheet and scanned it. Did it without fixing it but the emulsion is a ďflatĒ middle grey (well, purple-ish but in b&w a nice mid gray), so it shouldnít make a...
  14. Re: Epson v800 8x10 transparency vertical banding

  15. Re: Epson v800 8x10 transparency vertical banding

How much variability is there really in the banding? Like if you go to PS and hover the mouse over, how much variability is there in the K values (or RGB values)? I understand youíre emphasizing...

    Re: 90mm f8 vs 5.6

Then why not skip 90mm altogether and get a 80mm super symmar XL ? Itís f4.5, 67mm filter size, fits in a copal 0, and the optics weight less than 300 g. Itís only a tiny bit wider.

  22. Re: Exposure 40 min, f/5,6 in wet plate collodion process?

    Wide angle lenses for 8x10

I donít know about a myth. I use 180mm and 150mm on 8x10 a lot with great results. Itís hard for me to conceive of it as super-wide given that 150mm is just like ~23mm in 35mm equivalent (I think of...

    Wide angle lenses for 8x10

This is great. If I may ask, how is it that the picture does not show any fall off? At +/-60 deg the loss is about 4 stops. Do you use a center filter or is it one with the star?

Re: Focus accuracy issue with Intrepid 8x10

ErrrrÖ. For portraiture a lot of people shoot wide open. Maximum sharpness is not the goal. And itís sharp enough, just not where they focused.
  30. Re: Exposure 40 min, f/5,6 in wet plate collodion process?

Thanksó that makes sense, but then re-wetting doesnít help towards making an even longer exposure; the limit is given by when the plate dries. My guess is that probably the scene he was shooting was...
  31. Re: Exposure 40 min, f/5,6 in wet plate collodion process?

  32. Exposure 40 min, f/5,6 in wet plate collodion process?

He may have exposed for 40 min but maybe the last 20 it was already dried. I doubt he re-dipped in silver half way because itís almost impossible to get enough precision and not show up as a double...
