Re: How do you like your Chamonix 57Fs-2 ?

This is drifting off Eric’s original topic, so I’ll push it a little further. If you are considering a horizontal only camera, look at the H-1 with the 5x7 back. Beautiful camera. The 4x5 back...

Re: How these sliding fixers are called?

In the link you provided, Grimes refers to them as a “sliding clamp.” As good a name as any other you’ll hear.

Have you gotten it to light up yet? If not, I’d get it working before deciding to undertake some expensive modifications. The 2000W bulb may work fine and last a long time.

Re: F stop markings on lens board

Rather than taking the lens off the camera, I carry a dental mirror with the handle cut down. If I can’t see the scale, the mirror can.

You can get 4x4 to Linhof adapter from Grimes and on Ebay. As someone said, useful if you have different types of cameras.

  29. Re: Removing a 21" Kodak Ektanon from a Prism

You need a set of jeweler's screwdrivers: https://www.harborfreight.com/16-piece-precision-screwdriver-set-4143.html

You can find better quality elsewhere, but these will work.
  30. Re: Removing a 21" Kodak Ektanon from a Prism

Another option that has worked well for me is a strap wrench. Same idea as William's. You can get them inexpensively from Harbor Freight: https://www.harborfreight.com/search?q=strap%20wrench.

Re: 450mm lens with 420mm bellows draw?

Use a “top hat” extension lensboard the has a tube that extends the lens about 100mm. I like the Ebay seller jinfinance (no relation, just reliable and good quality).

If you have a scale and buy the components, it’s easy to mix up your own. (AKA, you too can be a mad scientist!)
