    Re: Sinar 8x10 Bellows Extension

Okay, nevermind, the problem was with me. The same lever that unlocks swing also unlocks shift

    Re: Sinar 8x10 Bellows Extension

Oh yeah, looking up multipurpose standards on eBay now and they all have shift scales at the bottom of the frame, mine doesn't. Maybe I got an older model?

    Re: Sinar 8x10 Bellows Extension

Hmm, maybe the "multi-purpose standard" I picked up actually isn't then, because unless I'm missing a control somewhere it only seems to be capable of rise, fall, swing and tilt.

    Sinar 8x10 Bellows Extension

Yesterday I tried shooting macro with the Sinar P2 8x10 for the first time, and I found that I couldn't really use the multi-purpose standard to extend the bellows, because the 8x10 standards jut way...

eBay is usually my go-to for lens boards. See: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Linhof-Toyo-Wista-Lens-Board-Toyo-brand-Copal-0-size/142990406991?hash=item214ae4754f:g:iOEAAOSwv3lbitur:rk:2:pf:0
  7. Re: Anyone have waterhouse stops for a Newer Dallmeyer 3B?

Oh, fun. Maybe I should just forget calculations altogether, point it at a light and use a meter on the center of the ground glass to figure out when I've shaved a stop off of each successive size

    Re: Lensboard query

I've got the same lens and an older version of the same camera, it's fine on a flat board. I did buy a recessed board hoping to get a better range of movements but it didn't help, you just have to...
  9. Re: Anyone have waterhouse stops for a Newer Dallmeyer 3B?

It's hard to get my caliper in there precisely, but it looks like I'm within a few tenths of a millimeter of 87mm.

I'd love to, do you know of a service that could do the cutting affordable? ...
  10. Anyone have waterhouse stops for a Newer Dallmeyer 3B?

I've got a Dallmeyer 3B, what I believe is a newer model with a black barrel, photo attached. I'm wondering if anyone has a matching lens with a set of waterhouse stops that they wouldn't mind...
  11. Re: Does the gitzo GH2720QR head would be suitable for 4x5 camera

Fluid heads are meant for video, you're not really going to want to use that one unless you primarily use a video camera and you just really don't want to buy a separate head. Geared heads are nice...
  12. Re: I own a Sinar P2 4x5. What would I need to convert to 8x10?

Yep, the carrier frame, back and bellows are what were sold as the 8x10 conversion kit, and then they also had special front and rear bearers as shooting 8x10 on the normal standard bearers doesn't...

    Why are asymmetric movements asymmetric?

I understand how to use asymmetric movements. I think I understand how they work as well: when you tilt or shift the rear standard, it's arranged such that the axis of the tilt/shift passes through...

    P vs P2 Carrier Frames

Is there any functional difference between the rear carrier frames for the Sinar P and P2? I'm not sure if putting a 5x7 frame from a P on my P2 will affect the asymmetric movements or anything

Re: How does the Sinar F2 compare to the P2?

A copal 3 shutter would be great, but I'm looking for something I can do wet plate portraits with. Anything slower than f/4 is unfortunately gonna be pretty hard to work with, especially at 8x10...

Re: How does the Sinar F2 compare to the P2?

For now I've got a 12" and a 6" extension on top of the 12" base rail, which should keep me set for a while as the only lens I have that covers 8x10 is an 11.5" anyways. At some point I'll want to...

Re: DIY Dry Plate Storage Box?

My cheaper approach to plate storage is to just stick them in print file sleeves intended for film negatives and keep them in a binder. Granted, most of my plates are aluminum, but I shoot some...

Re: How does the Sinar F2 compare to the P2?

I currently have both of them in my apartment, getting ready to call KEH and ask for an RMA for the F2, actually. Both were in great shape, but I definitely like being able to swap the P2 frame onto...

Ah, yeah, I think that's it
  23. Re: Mounting an Old Brass Lens on a 8x10 Toyo Metal Lens Board

Unfortunately the last one I was mounting (Dallmeyer 3B) barely fit on a Sinar board as-is, no room for an adapter. Although if I get any bigger I might try having someone make me an adapter to 6x6...
  24. Re: Mounting an Old Brass Lens on a 8x10 Toyo Metal Lens Board

They make hole saws upwards of 10cm? :o A fly cutter would be nice, but then I'd have to buy a drill press and, more importantly, find somewhere in my apartment to keep a drill press
  25. Re: Mounting an Old Brass Lens on a 8x10 Toyo Metal Lens Board

That's the way to do it if you can. I sawed a hole in a Sinar board with a coping saw to mount an old Dallmeyer the other week, it was not fun
  26. Anyone Know Where to Find a Manual for the Sinar P2 8x10 Metering Back?

I can find plenty of catalogs that mention it, and the P2/F2 manual mentions it in passing, but I can't find a detailed breakdown of the back anywhere. I can basically figure out how it works, but...

    Re: Light Meter for collodion

Oh, and of course the meter tops out at ISO 3 and f/22, so try to at least get a fast enough lens/collodion combo that you can use less power than that ;)

    Re: Light Meter for collodion

I use an L358 for wet plate with strobes all the time. I've never really bothered with it outdoors, for that I just figure sunny 16 at about ISO 1, make a plate and see where I need to adjust from...
  29. Re: Do Recessed and Tophat Boards Affect Tilt/Swing?

lol, it's really not that much of an encumbrance. I use modern lenses for still life, and that's generally when I'm going to be using significant movements anyways. Besides, I'll likely be...
  30. Re: Do Recessed and Tophat Boards Affect Tilt/Swing?

The mounting flange itself is a custom-made tophat style gizmo, presumably the original was lost god-only-knows how many decades ago. So I could always get it mounted flat if I really wanted to, but...
  31. Re: Do Recessed and Tophat Boards Affect Tilt/Swing?

I've got an old Petzval that came with a tophat version of a mounting flange already attached to a Linhof board

How does the Sinar F2 compare to the P2?

Pretty much what the title says. I have a 4x5 P2, and I'd like to move up to 8x10 at some point. At first I was assuming I could just find a conversion kit, but now I'm realizing that everything to...

Re: How do you scan 4x5 with a DSLR?

If you are going to stitch multiple shots together, I'd rig up a copy stand and be sure to move the negative around under the lens rather than tilting/panning the camera, to minimize distortion
