I have an Arca F-field metric (with the smaller front standard & lens board), I can get it set up and zero'd in in about 1 minute from the bag.
Haven't (yet) needed a bag bellows, but for more...

Isn't that kind of the point of permanent inks - to be non-removable? Probably want to check at least twice if not thrice before committing anything to writing with one of those...
Or did I miss...
I use the same, the Micron. Works well with both.
I use the Microns, have a few different colors. Will keep an eye out for the others.
I'd say look into an Arca Swiss F-Metric or F-Field. Compact, light, sturdy, reliable, precise. Will do 75-300+mm with the same setup and bellows. It's technically a monorail, but is light and...
Wonderful!
Arca Swiss d4.
Very smooth, very stable, very precise.
And very pricey.
I'd say the previous one is better, or something in between if you want a more dramatic look. I think this is too dark and all the shadows lack any detail whatsoever.
Makes me think of mermaids....
Just to be the odd man out, I did the same search for a tripod here and elsewhere, for similar cameras (Arca Swiss 4x5 and Rolleiflex 6008i) and ended up with a Novoflex Triopod. It's among the...
Looks almost as if you were in the middle of the river to get the shot, Lasse. Very well done!
Sweet setup, Beano_z!
Hauntingly beautiful, Paul.
One last point to the OP, regardless of what you get, you can always sell it when the project is done, probably for about what you bought it for. So you might view it as a temporary expenditure.
I...
I've not used the B's reels, but would not want to use any reel or system that exposed the major part of the image surface to another surface like that, it seems like a really risky design.
I'm...
I'm sure there are Drew,
at the time when I asked the original question, I was in the Eastern Sierras on a camping trip. No photo books around, and very spotty cellular coverage. Basically only...
Love the tones and lines that draw the aye back and forth, Steve. Well done!
As I said, sometimes I have to get creative to find a spot that fits in the 5 degree circle. Sometimes I have to extrapolate, find something closer or out of frame that's a similar value, or measure...
Hi Alan,
It attaches to the meter's head and has a viewfinder with a circle demarcating the 5 degree zone. Point and click, I use it as if it were a 1 degree meter, only that due to the larger...
I have 2 meters, both bought new.
A Gossen Variosix-F that I've probably had for 20 years, with the 5 degree spot attachment (wish it did 1 degree, but oh well) has been my main meter through...
To follow up on the post I made about how rear tilt affects DOF and plane of focus, there was something else I noticed on my camping trip.
Some of the compositions I had set up, when I measured...
Or as I was taught when I started with LF a year or so ago, focus on the farthest object you want in focus, note the position of the standard on the rail, do the same with the nearest object. The...
Love my PQS Schneider lenses. 1/1000 is a lot more useful than you might think (at least in Medium Format).
I'd suggest Rodinal.
Hardcore users here will probably suggest HC-110, it's what Saint Ansel himself used, but it's a lot of juggling and measuring, and my tests with it some years ago didn't...
Thanks to everyone who provided suggestions and input to my trip.
My son and I had an amazing time, and John was right, there was more than enough to see along the 395. It was not hard at all to...
I’m out in the field (on the camping trip mentioned in another thread) and wondered how using rear tilt to accentuate different elements of a composition affects front tilt and getting the plane of...
Probably won't do all of that in a single week. Looks like it will be up the 395 and back down the 395, there are enough places to see and things to do. Was still considering a detour to see the...
Hi Drew,
as I mentioned earlier, this is still in the planning phase. If it's super crowded, we'll go elsewhere, and nothing is finalized yet.
I don't own a motor home, but was planning on...
John,
since you seem to have become the unofficial tour guide for CA, I've since revised my plan.
We'll be meeting an old friend in Bishop, my son wants to see Mammoth/June lake, Owens river,...
Thanks for all the replies so far!
I think John's suggestion of driving up 365 makes a lot of sense, we can find spots on the way, or do day trips to more popular spots, unless there are a bunch...
There is a Toyo loupe for sale on the forum here, 4x for $xxx..
My son will be returning soon from Europe and will have to quarantine with me for 2 weeks. So I thought why not travel around and spread any potential contagion he may have picked up - no just...
I really like my Arca Swiss F-field metric with orbix (tm), but there's no denying they are rather pricey, even when buying used.
It's light, precise, will work with any of the lenses you...
Welcome Lia, check out the ForSale forum, there are 8x10 kits that pop up there regularly. Sinar is good, as are many others.
Lenses - the shutter merely denotes the size of the shutter and hole...
When I was restoring a classic Maserati a few years ago I did a lot of research on the topic to bring the original hand-sewn leather seats back to life.
More than a few specialists and owners who...
In the studio - big, heavy and wheeled.
For heads, I can't suggest any pan/tilt head, being out in the field. I use an Arca Swiss d4 that's pretty nice. Precise, ergonomic, compact.
I wonder where the OP went? Don't recall seeing a post from him since around the first or second page (of 11...)
You did ask! ;)
That makes sense - the Arca I purchased was for sale in Europe.
I had been researching LF for about a year and getting a good idea of what camera I'd ideally like to get. Kept an eye on the usual venues (here, eBay, KEH, Adorama, etc), and shortly thereafter a...
I would suggest as many others have, that 4x5 is not the format that makes the most sense for an extended hike. If you were going away for a weekend or even a week, I could see it being an option,...
