Sometimes the subject is the subject.
Sometimes the OOF highlights in the background are the subject.

  3. Re: Creative ways of mounting largish lenses on smallish lensboards?

If you put a big, heavy lens farther in front of the front standard than usual without a 'crutch', you are asking for unintentional front forward tilt...especially on an older wood camera. I have a...

Re: Goerz red dot lens board removal

You might need to unscrew the rear cells from the shutter before unscrewing the shutter from the lens board.
    Don't force anything!
You will need to remove the threaded flange from the front of the...

Re: Must your image be technical perfect ?

Techniques and aesthetics are new & current, then they become cliché...until a new generation "discovers" them...

    Re: 180mm for Portraiture

It sounds like you have a good basis to start with.
Shoot a few boxes of film to get comfortable with it, make some prints, then re-evaluate to see what needs changing in order to improve your...

    Re: 180mm for Portraiture

    I had a Fujinon SF...didn't like it.
The out-of-focus highlights had the strainer pattern.
    Very strange looking.

    Re: 180mm for Portraiture

180mm equates to ~7". There are quite a few older Tessar-type lenses available in that focal length.
Bausch & Lomb, Wollensak, Ilex, etc.
They are usually in older shutters such as Alphax, Betax,...

    Re: 180mm for Portraiture

The Symmar-S and the Fujinon are both Plasmat-design lenses, and usually quite sharp throughout their aperture range.
The Xenar is a Tessar-formula lens, generally less "clinically sharp" until...

Re: Graflok Back for Chamonix 4x5

Graflok is a trade name of Graflex.
The term Graflok has become the de facto term for what is more properly known as "international" or "universal" back.
Much as all photo copies are Xeroxes, and...

  27. Re: How to mount a Goerz Artar 10 3/4 inch in a shutter?

I had one of those exact lenses, and had S. K. Grimes mount it in a Copal #1 shutter.
