Excellent, IIRC you might also check out the Nikkor 450 M that’s often classified as a tessar lens as well, though it, like the Fuji, seems to have been bid-up by the deep-pocketed ULF guys in recent...

Excellent, IIRC you might also check out the Nikkor 450 M that’s often classified as a tessar lens as well, though it, like the Fuji, seems to have been bid-up by the deep-pocketed ULF guys in recent...
Here’s an article you might find interesting:
https://photographylife.com/best-lenses-8x10-camera
that lays out some options on the long end.
Otherwise, assuming you’re going the hybrid route,...
Excellent, I have to admit I was bit nonplussed when Baldwin audited one of my wife’s grad classes a few years back—a model of modesty and gentility, as one might suspect. Otherwise while on the...
Much obliged, Andy—I might burn a couple of sheets, then call it a day. :). Otherwise I look forward to more
YT content…last time I was surprised to learn BC had cacti!
Really enjoying all of the videos dropping lately, Andrew. A question that I had from this one, though: what’s the best way to goose HP5+ into a density range appropriate for, say, salt printing? ...
Ha, given that Sloss Furnace has become a photo destination of sorts, I could have staked out the territory ahead of the crowd since it was within walking distance of my house. (Otherwise, most of...
Excellent, my wife and I taught at UAB during the 90’s before moving up the road to UT-Knoxville—Alabama really is a great place to explore. Given your mining project, I’m assuming you’re in the...
The Norma will always take up more space than the Toyo, but I doubt the later will give you much in the way of weight savings like, say, a Chamonix Alpinist would. As for ease/speed of set up, check...
Thanks for elaborating, Francesco—you’re providing a great introduction into what that medium is capable of.
Excellent, that is impressive work! A mundane question, though: how are you fabricating the metal border for the glass? I’ve seen some photographers use caming as you might for stained glass, but...
Since everyone seems to mentioning shorter lenses, I might put the Walker Titan Xl on your list:
http://www.walkercameras.com/XL_8x10.html
especially if you think you could leverage the 5x7...
Drew—
Here’s a YT video that might give you ideas, especially if you like the “industrial” aesthetic:

For myself, the gent’s use of caming sparks...
That’s a great question—like Vaughn I’m working under canopy, so factoring in reciprocity flowing water has a tendency to turn to froth. One approach you might try is to segment your exposure time...
Excellent, thanks Drew—I will admit that I’m a bit of a lens snob when it comes to my MF kit, but still more “bang for your buck” when it comes to LF lenses. Definitely good to know options, though,...
It might be a longish day trip, but I could spend a lot of time photographing in Trier….great Roman architecture (the Porta Nigra, Dom, and baths) as well as the Electoral Palace…the countryside in...
Excellent, those are some impressive lenses, Daniel—for myself, I’ve decided that an extra 18” rail is about all I am willing/able to handle under field conditions….definitely could see how the wide...
BTW, Drew, am I remembering correctly that you use a 300ish Zeiss tessar when oof areas are important to you? I wanted to pick up a Fuji 420mm at some point for the same reason, though after falling...
Ha, the Ektanon is precisely the lens I ended up with….I actually sent it to SK Grimes to get it mounted and threaded for modern 77mm filters and still came in for much less than what a 600mm RDA...
We few, we happy few…:)
One thing that really made the Norma click for me was Neil Poulson’s great hack:...
“Nobody goes there anymore—it’s too crowded,” as Yogi once said.:)
At any rate, don’t let me scare you off—especially if you’re willing/able to go in by headlamp.
Ha, out of Christian charity I might advise you to make a U-turn and fetch up in the Guadalupes for the duration—we locals shelter in place starting now through Thanksgiving.;)
Seriously though,...
Ha, it’s a rare day when a chop saw and a MiG welder aren’t of use here in East Tennessee. :). Otherwise, here’s a brochure from Uniloc—the picture mid-page will give you an idea of what I was...
It might seem counterintuitive since so many otherwise able bodied photographers describe using one as like wrestling an octopus :) but you might explore a Uniloc tripod as a foundation for your...
Excellent, another native Arkansan here (from the southwestern corner of the state) though I’m currently in East Tennessee. I think you’ll find a lot of diverse approaches to photography here on the...
This one has definitely captured the essence of the Southern Highlands—the patch of light upper left especially packs some soteriological heft for us trout bums. ;)
If you’ve not already, check out John Blakemore’s work—conveying the effects of motion in both wind and water was a preoccupation of his in many of his series.
Definitely! That shot is about 200 yards across a little creek bottom—the tree was about 7 or 8 feet DBH (though of course hollow as a drum)…I actually heard it come down from a mile and a half away.

Into your mind it will creep
;)
At any rate, the sad...
One of my favorite architectural studies from you, Gabe, even if the sexton has seemed to have misplaced his Swifter.:)
Won’t say I’m a flatlander, but that first one makes me nervous…excited about the prospects for the second one, though! :)
Nice set, Jeff…the last especially seems to capture the Ash Wednesday experience there in NOLA all to well. ;)
Ha, famously dem Yats have almost Brooklyn accents, so hopefully you feel right at home. :)
Ha, if you promise to let us borry that time machine when you ain’t using it, I imagine several of us would pony up for a 5x7 for you to take back and maybe even help you yeet that stupid driftwood...
Nice to see you’ve been out in the field…the leaf resting in the cupped root bole is a great detail, but I have to say the texture study in the second makes it my favorite—good luck with your prints!
Austin, Gabe—two great arborscapes back to back… :)
Otherwise I'm happy to see that 250mm FL lens in your bag, Gabe—I’ve been missing the long end here in my extremely untidy environs here in the...
I’ll definitely be interested in what shakes out in response to your question—otherwise, if you’ve not already seen it, Quinn Jacobson has an interesting YT interview with Paul Unks, who has produced...
That’s some dark and bloody ground y’all are treading, gents—the deep loess soils around Natchez were perhaps **the** prize in the great contest for the continent between the French and British in...
There’s a Walker Titan XL currently in the Classified section that I might take a look at (no connection with the seller)—they have a reputation for bomber construction, and the ABS furniture might...
An excellent photo for all of that—the maples catching the light really makes for a great backdrop.:)
Great “arborscape”, though I think “black oak” would be my first guess, though it’s hard to make out the lobes. (Generically a “red oak,” just as “white oak” encompasses a lot of species here in the...
