Re: Developing 4x5 in the Kitchen?

I use the same equipment, but don't invert. I use the swizzle stick. Never had an issue.

Re: Blotchy pattern on 4x5 negatives

Are you using dry chemicals to develop the film? If so, maybe they're not fully dissolved.

I use the MDO54 and the twirl stick with no issues. But I also invert the tank twice during developing....

Checking for light leaks, I ran a single sheet through it.

  4. Re: Not officially mine........ yet............... but.................

No film holders, but I already have plenty. Has a cheesy dark cloth and a reflex focus for the back. No cable releases. It has a relatively nice case though.
  5. Re: Not officially mine........ yet............... but.................

I think they were asking $300. But I might be able to haggle that down with the spring issue.

  7. Re: Freezing 4X5 film: bag the box, or just freeze it?

A huge factor is whether your freezer is self-defrosting. If it is, you'll have moisture issues as the unit actually has a heating unit that's used to melt the frost build-up.
  8. Re: Freezing 4X5 film: bag the box, or just freeze it?

The Ilford I've been getting isn't. It's open on one end.

Even if you've been getting sealed bags, there's no indication on the box as to whether it's sealed or not. And since there's no...
  9. Re: Freezing 4X5 film: bag the box, or just freeze it?

Not all sheet film comes sealed from the factory. Some liner bags are open on one end.

Toward that premise, I always use a freezer bag. Film's expensive enough to lose a box trying to cheap out.

Help me fix an Epson V700

    Re: Shooting into a mirror

This will be for a Shen Hao HZX 45 IIA. If it was a monorail, it would be an easy do, especially if the rail is round. But this is a flatbed field camera.

Would you care to explain the photo you posted? Where is the mirror? How does this device attach to the camera/lens? Why does the device have a lens on it when my camera already has one?

    Shooting into a mirror

Rotate the film 180° in the holder, as well as how you load it into your developer, to help narrow down where the problem can occur.

Yep... shot through a window. Cloudy day, so a polarizer didn't help much. I tried blocking as much as I could with my coat, but it's only so big. The Mobile logo is in the showroom.

Re: Does the 410 head lock?

It's basically self-locking. You must unlock it in order to make large movements. Otherwise, you must use the smaller knobs to slowly grind the gears to where you want the camera to be.
