    Re: E6/Positive LF film?

Today Kodak Alaris announced release within 10 days for 120 and 4x5".
4x5" shooters are not all shooting on 8x10", and vice versa.
So looking at 4x5" sales could not be telling the whole truth...
  6. Re: Can anyone here help me understand how to use the Sekonic L-778 Dual Spot Meter?

Go with the average the meter gives you, but as you know what that will do for your highlights or shadows, adjust accordingly. Or handle (part of it) it in the darkroom, when developing the film, I...

  10. Re: "The big two" - Please tell me about your japanese lenses!

I use Nikon, Fuji and Rodenstock for 8x10". Rodenstock and Schneider-Kreuznach for 4x5" as I happen to stumble upon those, not by choice or meaning.
All lenses produce an image that I like and...

Great link! I'd like to try that, just for fun.

Re: 8x10 Polariod Portrait Prices ???

With your type of photography, it's not going to happen to compete on price, your costs are too high.
Better focus on just covering the cost and as a start, if you don't depend on this for your...

    Re: Preferred Format, and why?

35mm, seldom used, for special things only, and 8x10" also seldom used, 10 - 20 images a year.

I love 4x5", film price is bearable, the camera is small enough, Linhof Technika. With 90mm and...
  19. Re: Allowing Lens Availability to Dictate Format Choice

It looks that the surplus is drying up. There used to be a multitude of lenses for reasonable prices.

Indeed prices for film are going up, but I'm way more selective than I used to be, that...

Re: In 2019 where are we at with drum scanners?

In Large Format, that's where we are here, it is obvious that a professional drum scan form a 8x10" film is very much better than what the flatbeds can...

    Re: The comeback of film?

This is a real misconception, digital shooting is not free. Consumer camera's don't have the shutters for pray and spray. Pro camera's do better, but shutters just last for so long, 2 years at most....

Re: I don't like slide film for scanning

I would certainly consider a drum scan, which isn't cheap for 8x10", but the quality of the output is stunning, especially in the shadows. The flatbed can never pull that out.
  34. Re: Tools: Cheap and disposable vs. the best you can find/afford?

Re: Congo 400mm f8 sharpness on a budget?

For 4x5", cropping after the fact is not that useful, so there it's more or less mandatory to use the lens you need to make the image you want. So likely, you will be accumulating more lenses. Then...

Re: My LF-prints less crisp compared to my MF

I worked for a long time with MF (Mamiya 6x7, 6x8) and LF (4x5" / 8x10"). In color (flatbed and drumscanned) the 4x5" outperforms the MF any time in my experience. Even the old Angulon on my 1950 or...
