When I shoot with daylight, so with the sky or windows, doesn't the color temperature change depending on the weather, density of clouds, time of day?
Not getting reproducible results from shot to...
Sorry, I did not understand that :)
Does it mean if I put a gel on that outdoor floodlight I am going to get a stable color temperature?
Thanks for the excellent advice everybody!
I will start with LED flood lights like this.
How powerful should they be if I want to expose around EV8 and considering that I want to shape the light...
Long time no see LFphotographyforum! :)
I have moved to a new place and no longer have that gorgeous grey Belgian sky as lighting.
The new place has no good windows to shoot with.
Because of...
I will try that! Thank you!
The file on the left is my edited tiff file. The file on the right is the same after I saved it as jpeg.
I'm aware that I'm going from 16 bit to 8 bit but I don't understand how this affects the...
Let's see if I understand this...
1) a small, but still soft, very directional light source
2) a very contrasty exposure/negative/print
3) a young goddess a subject
???
I'm completely in love with this image.
I took the image from this source.
How would you create this high contrast without loosing detail and sharpness?
Would you know of any photographers...
It looks so candid! Very nice shot!
My girlfriend is Indonesian too. Super smiley people. :)
Just amazing Ben!
Can I order a print? :)
My baby steps into cinematic lighting.

In Belgium, 6 out of 7 days, the afternoon sky is uniformly grey at EV8.
No worries at all.
Thanks!
I got pack of 8x10 Harman dpp. But it's RC, not fibre.
Also got a paper cutter and a red light lamp. So now I will do my first "dark room" work. :)
Hopefully by tomorrow morning I will...
For my girlfriends 29th birthday I took her to Studio Baxton in Brussels, BE to do 8x10 wet plate portraits of her.
Nicolas, the photographer, let me under the dark cloth to help compose the shot...
I like mine but it's not a huge improvement over the 'taco method' if you only develop 4 sheets at the time.
In retrospect I could have saved the money maybe.
Once again, thanks so much Michael!
I'm still puzzled about this whole circuitry and mechanical cameras.
Is the transmitter providing the current? Going through the hot shoe via pc into the shutter...
Finally want to dip my toes into flash on film.
I'm just a sucker for cinematic lighting and I find it really hard to do with available light.
I've got some equipment already here:
A stand, a...
I'm afraid the large format shots are nothing to speak of.
The composition are not were I want them and her expression neither.
The MF stuff went better after we both warmed up a little. ...
that may still take quite some time but here's a digital polaroid.
Let's say it went ok. :)

Thanks everyone for the great input and for reminding me that I can shoot at home. :)
The shoot went great! By miracle I found exactly the kind of backdrop that I wanted just this morning.
The...
Just found this huge collapsable background in town. Very expensive, but I think it will pay off.
Just need a separation light now.

Ok, +1 for moving furniture. This is gonna work!
Just need to find a nice grey background now.

Hey, another one :)
The placement of the windows in my apartment is really tricky.
But you're right. It might work with a portable background.
I'm in Brussels, BE and so far the studios that I've seen have been more expensive then that.
The setup will be super simple as I'm going for Irving Penn's Hands & Face composition.
She basically...
Normally I shoot my portraits on my balcony as it has great light from 3 directions and a very beautiful backdrop.
But now that Winter is coming I can't have the model standing there in the cold.

Guys, I've not abandoned the thread.
As soon as I fix it will let you know what the reason was!
I can tell that it's not the calibration area, not the cables, not the power source.
Thanks a lot Michael! I'll look into that!
I just got a new scanner, the Epson V800, as an upgrade for my V600.
The V800 seems to have a problem with underexposed areas where vertical banding is visible.
I have scanned the same negs on my...
Just mentioned Vermeer for lighting and composition but I'm generally interested in photographers.
Thank you kindly!!
Ken, thank you !! :)
Noticed something else...
The lensboard does not sit entirely level and causes maybe a 2 degree shift.
It might be that because the "unsharpness" reminds me off "shift blur".
To answer the other...
So I have an amazing offer for a Charmonix 45n-2 and have it at home for testing.
It seems that the ground glass is not quite sharp compared that of my Sinar F2.
(And I'm not sure if that is even a...
You'll know that your making my day, right?
Thank you!!
Micheal, thank you so much for taking a look! Yes, my monitor has changed (for the worse) and I've never calibrated any of them.
And I...
Could I ask for some critique here?
I'm very happy with the image but I feel like something is missing.
What do you think about the contrast? Should it be higher?
...
Do you maybe have some image examples where you used reflective light as a second source?
Like I said before, I have never managed to achieve a pleasant look with reflectors.
I looked at the positioning of the windows in other shots of micmojo. I believe she's sitting under the windowsills of 3 windows at 10, 11 and 12 o'clock.
It's magical to me...
With artificial...
Awesome! I'm waiting for the ash to fall...
What could be an easy way to get a two perpendicular lights from available light?
Basically I want the subject to be lit from 11 o'clock and 2 o'clock and have small amount of fill or ambient light...
Thanks guys!
Plenty of food for thought.
