  1. Re: Looking for a first artificial light for portraits

    I expected a lot but not a canon/nikon debate. Seriously guys... :)

So the consensus seems to be:

    - You would be better off with strobes
    - If you can, invest some money in good LED lights...
  2. Re: Looking for a first artificial light for portraits

When I shoot with daylight, so with the sky or windows, doesn't the color temperature change depending on the weather, density of clouds, time of day?
Not getting reproducible results from shot to...
  3. Re: Looking for a first artificial light for portraits

Sorry, I did not understand that :)
Does it mean if I put a gel on that outdoor floodlight I am going to get a stable color temperature?
  4. Re: Looking for a first artificial light for portraits

Thanks for the excellent advice everybody!
I will start with LED flood lights like this.

How powerful should they be if I want to expose around EV8 and considering that I want to shape the light...
  5. Looking for a first artificial light for portraits

Long time no see LFphotographyforum! :)

I have moved to a new place and no longer have that gorgeous grey Belgian sky as lighting.
The new place has no good windows to shoot with.

    Because of...

  7. Photoshop image looks darker after saving as jpeg

The file on the left is my edited tiff file. The file on the right is the same after I saved it as jpeg.
I'm aware that I'm going from 16 bit to 8 bit but I don't understand how this affects the...

Re: How would you create this look?

Let's see if I understand this...

    1) a small, but still soft, very directional light source
    2) a very contrasty exposure/negative/print
    3) a young goddess a subject

How would you create this look?

I'm completely in love with this image.
I took the image from this source.

How would you create this high contrast without loosing detail and sharpness?

Would you know of any photographers...

    Re: Harman Direct Positive Portraits

    Thanks!

I got pack of 8x10 Harman dpp. But it's RC, not fibre.
Also got a paper cutter and a red light lamp. So now I will do my first "dark room" work. :)

I like mine but it's not a huge improvement over the 'taco method' if you only develop 4 sheets at the time.
In retrospect I could have saved the money maybe.

Where to shoot your portraits without a studio?

Normally I shoot my portraits on my balcony as it has great light from 3 directions and a very beautiful backdrop.
But now that Winter is coming I can't have the model standing there in the cold.

Guys, I've not abandoned the thread.
As soon as I fix it will let you know what the reason was!

I can tell that it's not the calibration area, not the cables, not the power source.

Thanks a lot Michael! I'll look into that!
  29. New scanner does "banding" in underexposed areas

I just got a new scanner, the Epson V800, as an upgrade for my V600.

I have scanned the same negs on my...
