Perhaps a "barn door tracker" to support an 8x10?
Reminds me of Jonny Quest
That's lovely Karl! I only just today saw this thread. Very happy to see the interest in this format!
#1) Yes it can be removed. However, that doesn't mean you'll necessarily be successful. Work slowly and carefully.
#2) I have used Pliobond Contact Cement and have been very happy with it. And...
Very neat. Sounds like they had format wars back then, too!
...especially the latter!

Several years ago I modified my F&S 12x20 to accept modern holders (mine are S&S). I cut a groove in the back using a router to accommodate the rib lock on the holder.
That...
A pre-wet cycle may help. Just plain water to help prepare the emulsion to receive the developer.
For some it can be the path to nirvana. For others, it's an ever-deepening rabbit hole.
I've been very fond of the Verito since I first learned about it about 20 years ago..It is versatile because it is a convertible lens. Remove the front group and you have a soft focus lens about 1.5x...
I'm fond of my own story about a time back in about 1984 when I walked out the door of my apartment and was struck by the arrangement of trash cans next to the driveway. I went back in, grabbed the...
State of Financial Readiness.
But seriously, as I read over all the responses, I was reminded of the fact that since retiring in 2014, I have taken jobs three times that have caused me to move...

A big round of thanks to everyone: founders, moderators and the many members without whom, of course, there would be no forum.
Peace and good health,

Refinishing the camera with the knobs in place should be OK since the metal knobs should be resistant to the finish applied.
But another thought.
Are the cross-axles (focusing shafts) affixed to...
Ari,
If I understand you correctly, the root problem you are trying to solve is that you do not have enough extension. Is that correct?
I know that sounds dumb to ask. But between reading two...
"The images use something called one-point perspective: the composition that makes faraway objects appear to recede."
WTH is that?? Sounds like regular old perspective to me...
But I never went to...
5x7.
I quite enjoy this guy's walks/rambles. A bit tedious at times, but the scenery is usually stunning and he's quite informative.
I'm more than a bit envious, actually, and can only hope that I might...
Ah, youth!
Thanks for sharing your insights Jim.
Mine is an Agfa 8x10, an earlier one that uses the 7 1/2" lens boards. Amazingly, it still has a beautiful finish. These cameras, like the 2D, are workhorses...
You must learn to wait and allow your destination to come to you.

I have a soft spot in my heart for VW Type II. Had several. Even a Eurovan Camper conversion (with kitchenette). It was great until the transmission started acting up. It was a CPO and VW didn't want...
Pliobond is what I've used for years for attaching bellows. It works. Clamp your work well and let it rest, in clamps, overnight. I've used it for bellows from sub-4x5 to 12x20.
It was Ansel's writing as much as his photographs that first got me interested in photography.
Sounds like fun Steve! Best of luck with it all. :-)
And yes, lensboard size matters!
Very cool. Thank you for sharing!
Comparable to 90mm on 4x5?
210mm (8 1/4") Dagor. f/6.3 gives you adequate light with which to focus. Often available in an Ilex #3 synchro shutter. Not the most modern, but they can be good. And not...
Thanks Greg!
Looks terrific Greg! Ditto the pool noodle.
Searching "Rustoleum Restore" online, I see that there are a lot of products. Can you be specific about which you used? Did you use a primer?
I also...
Because they're there. Both are big coverage modern lenses with modern coatings in modern shutters. I had both until last summer I (somewhat regrettably) sold my Nikkor M-450. But, like Jim F, I can...
For a lens mounted in a shutter, the aperture or iris is part of the shutter. For an idea about what makes a good portrait lens, take a look at the ongoing portrait thread on this forum. And don't...
If you're building the camera, why not build the head, too? Maybe make one following the design of the old platform heads that look like a clapperboard from the side.
When I started in 4x5 a few years back, I chose to go with a 210 and 120mm combination. That seemed to best address the way I look at the world.
But then, several years later my favorite image to...
For a while I had a 5x7 Technika camera and used it with a Ries J-100 tripod (or rather, an older equivalent) and a J-250 head. That was a very solid set-up; going larger or more robust will give you...
The best part of Red Rock Canyon, I thought, were the wild burros. But I doubt they'd hold still for a sitting.
NE of Vegas, going up Hwy 93 toward Alamo is interesting. The landscape looks almost...
And I don't mean to rain on the OP's parade.
Or maybe I do...
But success at the larger ULF formats is very demanding in so many ways.
The progression is very non-linear. And there are so many...
It seems to me that there is something completely incongruous about this statement.
Why don't you start with something smaller before going into the deep end?
That wasn't my point. But never mind.
Alas, not a word about lenses. Guess it's just geeks like us, er, uh... me, that care about such!
Without a doubt, the Legion of Honor and the Palace of Fine Arts. Each is an architectural field day.
