Re: Mountain Lion near Santa Cruz

Most folks never hear a mountain lion attack them. They're super quiet, and you're in their playhouse. Personally, I wouldn't carry a .380, because it's doubtful that that caliber has enough...

  5. Re: Recommendations for a general purpose lens for a Calumet 4x5?

Nikons are fine LF lenses, and your budget, at the top end especially will fetch a decent lens. Don't forget, though, add a lens board drilled to the proper opening.
  6. Re: Recommendations for a general purpose lens for a Calumet 4x5?

For practical usage, almost any good lens ranging from 135mm, to 180mm. These are considered "normal" lenses, since they fairly easily cover the 4x5 format (approximately 162mm on the diagonal), and...

Re: Gitzo matching legs and heads (R3)

From what I've been able to glean, the R3 head is from the mid-80's. I don't think it would be for a modern Series 3. Looking at Gitzo spare parts, I'd guess it came from a "G" series.

Re: Bellows Lens Hoods for Graphic View I

There's a compendium bellows for the Graphic on eBay right now, for $49.95 + $15.95 shipping. Not a bad price.

You'll be hard pressed to read any electronic data, even from 60 years ago. Most was card/tape/disk-oriented, and the readers are long since gone. The company from which I retired has corporate...

A good 3-axis head, for me, is ideal. I have a number of Bogen/Manfrotto 3047's, and a 3039 (3047 on steroids). They're the best I've used. I can adjust any axis, leaving the others locked in...
