    Re: Linhof Technica 5x7

Yes, Kirk. That's what I have to do on my III. I would have thought that by the IV they would have had slide on stops that screwed into place but the notches always work and if that button is...
  2. Re: Lensboards for Macro Stereo :confused::confused:

Mark, I'm sure you know the Macro Realist just had closer spaced lenses and the 4 lens Nimslo could be used for macro by putting a diopter on the 2 inner lenses. Otherwise I think it would just be...

Re: Wanderlust Travelwide - still alive?

Lugging a tripod around with a TW kind of defeats the whole idea. A very light monopod, if you must, will be just fine.

Re: lens selection for zebra slot

Where is zebra? Ah, Zebra Slot Canyon in Grand-Staircase Escalante. Nope, never heard of it before this, but the only slot canyon I ever photographed in definitely needed a wide lens.

Re: New to me 6 Old Lenses

I see it in the little ad for the Beck Autograph series as a Rapid Rectlinear for 6.5x8.5 and 11 I/2 inch would be about standard for a 6.5x8.5. Should be a nice RR.

Re: Question about JOBO expert drums

May I inquire why people don't load the drums full of water? No sticking and even application of the developer since they are prewet.

    Re: weight of Rittreck View

I have the 4x5, 5x7, 6x9 rollfilm (a sliding back), and 6.5x8.5 (WP) backs. I haven't used the 4x5 or 6x9 backs but use the 6.5x8.5 almost as much as the 5x7. Yes, it is heavy but very stable. I have...
  8. Re: Post your homage to another photographer (any format)

Homage to Laura Gilpin in Yucatan. Taken with a 1930s Ikonta A, 6x4.5, on Verichrome Pan, uncoated Tessar.

    Re: Aperture indicator not aligned

You could call it a feature that automatically adjusts the exposure by stopping down a bit to compensate for the shutter actually being slower than marked;-)
  11. Re: Ilex Paragon Anastigmat Series S 12 inch FL

It is my belief that the f/6.3 Tessars are considered to have higher image quality than their f/4.5 cousins.

My first "8x10" was a 7x11 2D. I added a vertical stop at the far end for 8x10 holders and trimmed 1/4 inch off the long sides of the wooden holders to fit the cameras groove width. Worked great with...

Re: Finding f-stops for remounted lens

Pere, what kind of lux readings do you get through the lens off a normally lit wall? 2 digits, 3 digits, 4 digits? How much change in lux is 1 stop?

Re: Finding f-stops for remounted lens

Precompute the required apertures by dividing the focal length of the lens by the desired f/stop number - 5.6 - 8 - 11 -16 - 22 - 32 and so forth. Looking through the front of the lens (the glass...

  20. Re: Ilex Paragon Anastigmat 10 inch F4.5 Info

  21. Re: explain like I'm 5......... 90mm lenses

I have to throw another one in the ring: the 90mm Ilex-Calumet Wide Field Caltar f/8 (AKA 90mm Ilex Acugon). It lives in the 5x7 kit as it beat out the 90mm f/8 Super Angulon which is in the 4x5 kit....

    Re: 508mm f/7 ILEX lenses

It occurred to me that I had a 508mm kicking around. I managed to find it but it is a f/5.6 Bausch and Lomb Tele. It must be lacking in coverage as I put it on a 5x7 board so 6.5x8.5 at most. Don't...

Re: Budget wide angle lens for 8x10

For really wide, if you don't need movements, the old 121 Super Angulon does a good job. I believe it has just a tad more coverage than the 120.

Re: Budget wide angle lens for 8x10

My 165 didn't make the corners focused in the foreground and stopped down. Corran was your 159 an f/9.5 or an f12.5? Mine is a late coated one.

Re: Budget wide angle lens for 8x10

I tested a 165mm Angulon against my 159mm f/12.5 Wolly and as a result the 165 ended up in the whole plate kit and the 159 stayed with the 8x10. The 210 G-Claron works fine but my most used lens on...

Re: Servicing an old lens... worth it?

Isn't that a US 4 and not an f/4? So equivalent is f/8 and probably a Rapid Rectilinear? A very nice looking camera by the way. If the shutter will open and close consistently at T or B, get some...

I suppose one more question would be just what to you plan to do with LF transparencies (other than look at it once and say "oh, neat") that wouldn't better be done with negative film?
