This Sunday! Don't miss out!
Techniques and aesthetics are new & current, then they become cliché...until a new generation "discovers" them...
Soft focus and/or narrow depth of field portraits are making/ have made a comeback,...
I was told there'd be donuts....
:)
It sounds like you have a good basis to start with.
Shoot a few boxes of film to get comfortable with it, make some prints, then re-evaluate to see what needs changing in order to improve your...
I had a Fujinon SF...didn't like it.
The out-of-focus highlights had the strainer pattern.
Very strange looking.
Thank you for posting this, Merg!
I'll have to get up there and see the exhibit.
If you want to get really philosophical....
Are we really here?
...and where is this "here" of which we speak?
I don't want new technology, I want old technology...
Infrared film in 5x7, multiple films in 220!
180mm equates to ~7". There are quite a few older Tessar-type lenses available in that focal length.
Bausch & Lomb, Wollensak, Ilex, etc.
They are usually in older shutters such as Alphax, Betax,...
The Symmar-S and the Fujinon are both Plasmat-design lenses, and usually quite sharp throughout their aperture range.
The Xenar is a Tessar-formula lens, generally less "clinically sharp" until...
There is a lot of good work being posted here.
Well done!
I agree...I had to elaborate in the "other" fields.
Hopefully they listen to our answers.
Graflok is a trade name of Graflex.
The term Graflok has become the de facto term for what is more properly known as "international" or "universal" back.
Much as all photo copies are Xeroxes, and...
To share information about the avocation we enjoy...large format photography.
And to debate depth of field.
Pop music.
Shooby dooby do-wop.

That is the twin of a Bausch & Lomb Metrogon....yours is made by Viewlex under Mil Spec contract.
There is a lot of info about them here on LFPF, if you do a search for 'Metrogon'.
I'm working on a...
That's excellent, Randy!
It would be fun to mount a 35mm body on the back end. :p
That is sad news.
His work is very inspirational to me.
My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Since those lenses were mostly intended for pre-press printing/ halftone/etc. photography, they weren't really set up for screw-in filters...the threads serve to assemble the lens elements in the...
I never used my Artar for portraits, sorry.
I had one of those exact lenses, and had S. K. Grimes mount it in a Copal #1 shutter.
It required machine work to fit...lens spacing is critical.
Check SK Grimes website, there is a chart that...
That's awesome, Randy!
Congratulations!
Might I suggest bringing an empty 11x14 paper box to your local appliance store for a trial fit?
Welcome!
You've come to the right place for LF info...lots of knowledgeable folks here.
There are some good links to info from the home page, if you haven't found them already.
Welcome aboard!
Next show is Sun. June 26th.
That's the day after the PhotoFair at Seawood Cameras in San Rafael, CA.
A two-fer weekend!
Don't miss out!
I bought some Shanghai 220 film from their website (above).
They were very responsive, no issues
Welcome from the peninsula!
New date...this Sunday, May 22nd.
Don't miss out!
Photography SHOULD be fun.
But at $20+ per frame for 5x7 and up, the sitter SHOULD sit still!
Capacitors, particularly electrolytic, are usually suspect in older electronics.
Wow! Beautiful.
If you are not paying for the 'product', your data is the product.
Congratulations!
Wollensak made excellent lenses.
Isn't Euro 220V @ 50Hz?
Would frequency make a difference?

Igor, that's beautiful...Excellent! :)
No visible edge lettering makes me suspect that the film was processed with fixer before developer.
Catastrophic exposure error would still show edge lettering with proper development.
Development...
The star on the Texaco sign is red.
The star is dark in the photo, which makes me think he might have used orthochromatic film, perhaps with a yellow filter and a polarizer.
