  1. Re: How does barrel lens shutter placement affect the image?

    Hi Dan,

Maybe you didn't see my edit above. I got a packard shutter that opens to a diameter 1" larger than the lens itself. I will mount it directly on the face of the lens. It's not going to...
  2. Re: How does barrel lens shutter placement affect the image?

    @reddesert

Awesome. Thanks a lot for explaining that. That is great to hear, both because it reassures me that a front-mounted shutter will serve my purposes, like I had originally thought it...
  3. Re: How does barrel lens shutter placement affect the image?

I hope you're right that it won't make much of a difference. I assume it won't, or else this would be something that I imagine others would have discussed at greater length about these shutters...
  4. How does barrel lens shutter placement affect the image?

Last night I ordered a packard shutter for my barrel lens. Researching different fashions of mounting the packard shutter, I found a post that described how mounting the shutter on the front of the...
  5. Re: Old Darkroom Paper - Testing, Developing, Light Sensitivity Q's

Thank you for the responses so far, this is all very helpful.

And @Huub and others, I should have mentioned that I intend to use these papers for lith printing, which I suppose changes how the...
  6. Old Darkroom Paper - Testing, Developing, Light Sensitivity Q's

    Hi all,

I recently came into some sealed packs of old darkroom paper. I'm practiced and comfortable working with modern papers, but I've never used expired paper before. So I have a few questions....
  7. Landscapes! - (Any format smaller than 4x5)

I'm surprised this thread doesn't exist already, although I did the hiking thread. I didn't take this one while hiking, so I figured it didn't qualify. I'm just getting into landscape photography,...

Re: Help - Double Image/Ghosting on Graflex

Oops, didn't mean to say rangefinder! Thanks. I'm familiar with the general inner constrcution of the camera, but not how a different mirror might work or affect the image.

    @djdister, so if...

Help - Double Image/Ghosting on Graflex

I just got a 3x4 RB Auto Graflex. I took a test shot with it in my home - a close up - all seemed fine.

Then today I took it out to take a portrait and I experienced something odd - a subtle...

Re: Help Identifying These Sheet Film Notches

No markings, unfortunately. It also turned out to be slightly undersized, so I'm guessing it had been cut down from 4x5 and the markings were lost in the process.
  11. Re: Carl Zeiss Tessar 18cm f/4.5 - Filter Size?

Okay, very good to know. Thanks to you both. I'll look into finding the appropriate series filter adapter. Much appreciated.
  12. Carl Zeiss Tessar 18cm f/4.5 - Filter Size?

I just picked received a Carl Zeiss Tessar (Nr 1057103) 18cm f/4.5. I would love to use some filters with it for b/w landscape work. Does anyone know where I can find the filter thread size info for...

Re: Help Identifying These Sheet Film Notches

Thanks to both of you for the input. Since I'm mostly unfamiliar with color film, I didn't recognize that the base indicated that it was likely color. As it turns out, by this morning I had shot and...

Re: Help Identifying These Sheet Film Notches

Ahh, nevermind. I think HP5 plus is more likely, given the orientation of the notches in relation to the corner.

Help Identifying These Sheet Film Notches

I just acquired a 3x4 Graflex RB. When I was examining the film holder, I found that there was already sheet film inside. The camera hasn't been used in a number of years, so I have no idea when it's...

    Re: 180mm for Portraiture

    Following up here.

Daniel, not a bad idea to look for a congo at the shorter focal length. That is something I might consider down the road if I don't end up finding a Xenar.

    I had the...

Apologies if there was any confusion, Michael. But I actually did state in my last post that I'm specifically not looking for soft focus lenses or filters.

    I think they...

If it changes the discussion at all, my Color Kardan came with a 210mm Prinz f6.3. I know this isn't the most stellar lens (Bob, I have seen your...

    Re: 180mm for Portraiture

Thanks, Peter and xkaes. Again, both comments were very helpful. I think I'll look for a Xenar in the right board in that case.

@drew, were those photos above taken with the 180mm Schneider that...

    Re: 180mm for Portraiture

Thanks, Dugan. I think one thing I've been a bit concerned about is lenses possibly being excessively sharp. Is that something that people consider? I guess it might sound a little silly, since 4x5...

    180mm for Portraiture

    Hi all,
